forenoon necessitated careful and
slower driving of autos and riding
of bicycles. However, not all drivers
and riders exercised such care, but
ran as normally, in consequence of
which- a - number of accidents were
narrowly avoided. Most drivers had
their lights on In the morning and
early forenoon, but tho bicycle riders

The annual formal onenlne of the
Christmas shopping season In Jled'ford
Inst night was a big success attended
by big throngs of local and rural peo
ple and from surrounding territory in
southern Oregon and adjoining Cali
tprnia. The night with Its clear brisk and
Christmassy atmosphere was ideal lor
tho occasion and sorved to bring out
the large crowds. At 7 p. m. all the
lights in- the city were doused for a
few seconds, leaving total darkness
everywhere, immediately after which
the closed blinds of the windows of
the stores' were raised disclosing the
brilliantly lighted windows with their
attractive displays or holiday goods,
toys and the llko. '
' Then while the D. O. K. K. band
marched through the business district
playing' selections which furthor put
the people in a holiday mood men,
women and children sauntorcd around
from window to window taking in the
gladsome sights, each wishing he or
she wero millionaires so that they
could buy everything they wanted for
Christmas.
The window displays wero-all very
attractive and in a number of them
much originality und novelty was
shown In the arrangement of the goods
displayed.
