Girls' club members on the showing
and sale of their fat hogs at the In
ternational Exposition b,iive not here
tofore been published.
Seventy six fat animals were shown
In club work and open -class. In pens
of four and then sold at. public auc
tion. All members having hogs at the
International were there In person to
show and sell their animals.
The presence of these nineteen ex
hibitors and two other members at
the fair wag due to the kindness of
the Southern Oregon Bankers' asso
ciation, the county court and a group
of leaders and parents. The bankers
and county court furnhmed the bulk
of the expense money for the trip
and the leaders, Including Prances
Greb and Floyd Charley of Browns
horo, A. T. Lathrop of Central Point,
Elton Beeson of Talent and C. C. Cate
furnished their cars and transported
the leaders to and from Portland.
Opportunity was thus afforded for
the club members to widen their ex
perience by seeing Portland and one
of the largest shows of the United
mates.
Jn iprlzes tne exhibitors of this
county took seven out of eight prizes
In both Berkshire and Hampshire fat
classes In club work, first, fourth and
fifth in Union Stockyard special pen
of four und seven prl7.es In Ihe open
class.
The United Meat Packers and the
Union Stockyards, through the Influ
ence of Mr. Plerson nnd Mr. Clarke,
furnished a ten dollar prize to all
those exhibiting the four animals who
had not taken one of the five larger
prizes. A complete list of the exhib
itors In club work nnd their prizes

The sale of the atilmnls at auction
was the crowning event of the project
when the prc'lts of the six months'
work of the club members were de
termined In a very short space of
time. The pen of Elmore Tcdrlck of
Eagle Point, first prlzo pen of this
division, brought a higher price than
the championship pen.
This was a pen of purebred Blrk
shlres which had boon well finished
out and brought two and a half cents
a pound over the market price. - Ten
and a half cents a pound was paid by
Gill and Dlyle.
The nineteen pens of four roturncd
to the raisers over $1150.
