'Seorge F. Vanderveer, in a fight for
liberty. Krachow. who is serving a
twenty yar sentence on McNeil
inland for desertion, is to come- be
fore Judge Jeremiah Neterer here on
a writ of habeas corpus.
Krachow had declared his Inten
tion of becoming a citizen of the
I'nited States before he enlisted In
the army. After deserting in Siberia
ho married a Kupsian girl and enter
ed the Iiusman army. Ho was rap
tured by American troops and sen
tenced to death. The sentence was
commuted.
Vanderveer assented that there was
not another case in the world war in
which an American soldier was asked
to fight against his native land.

troublesome article 27 of the Mexi

brand new romance in the animal
kingdom.
He owns a pet mother eat and
knew there was to be an Increase in
the feline family. One day recently,
the cat attracted Mr. Davins' atten
tion, constantly mewing in a plain
tive strain, like a broken-hearted
mother over the loss of her child.
Suspecting the truth, he made a dil
igent search for some kittens, but it
was unavailing.
That evening while at the chicken
house gathering eggs, he approach
ed a nest which was occupied by a
