their work, and deserve the financial
and moral support of all. In the late
Great Fracas, they proceeded as far
up front as the next one, and distrib
uted worldly things like coffee and
doughnuts, when they would do the
most good. The organization had no

cause, and what they were supposed
to distribute they distributed, without
delay. They did not crack under the

NEXT "WEEK the State Federation of Women's Clubs holds its
nmiual mectLng in Medford. Prominent club women from
every section of Oregon will be liere. That Medford intends to sus
tain her deserved reputation of hospitality, enterprise and progres
siveness goes without saying.
Hut tluiB far there lias appeared to be a strange lethargy regard
ing this convention in certain quarters. It has been customary in the
past for individuate in all the cities where the state convention .has
been held, to house a certain number of the delegates. Many dele
gates will prefer to go to the hotels. But the hotels can not accom
modate all of them. There will be an overflow.
In their effort to see that this overflow is taken care of, local club
women in charge of the meeting, have already solicited home accom
modations, but the response thus far has been disappointing. The
Mail Tribune is certain that it is only necessary to call attention to
this fact, to have all doubt regarding' the mutter removed.
The wtate convention here will, in all probability, be the most im
portant meeting of the Federation in recent years, Every section of
the state will have its eyes on Medford. The. activities of tho con
vention will be of intense interest to every person in tho state.
Although club women are particularly concerned the convention
this year, is for Medford not a club problem but a community prob
lem. It represents not so much a duly as a privelege, not so much an
cbligation as an opportunity.
Wo believe nothing more need be said, to insure "open house" for
all the visiting delegates, and to make this women's gathering the
most enjoyable and successful in the history of the state organization.

SPRING WEATHER.
THE SPRING is fairly with us now, the. threat of cold is gone;
I spend long mornings with my cow, n-playing on the lawn;
and when I'm summoned to my chow, I eat much tripe and brawn.
Cold weather makes me feel like one who's lived a hundred years,
by countless ailments I'm undone, frostbitten are my ears; with
joy I greet tho .springtime sun, when winter disappears. I claim
to bo a youth again, my years I'll not avow, I will not herd with
ancient men whoso years are plain enow, but up the brae and
through the glen I gambol with my row. I'll be too old for any
use when, on a day of May, I fail to feel the vital juice through
