fleeces of virgin wool have been re
moved from tho bucks of the patient
sheep during the jast week.

sheep owners, tho wool clip Is not
coming up to expectations and for
some unaccountable reason is not up
to tho usual uverugo In weight.
Although smudging was resorted
to in many of our orchards thero ap
pears to have been practically no
danuigo from frost in orchards
where no means of protection were
used.
John 'Williams of California, who
Is a brother of Mrs. Wm. Vaughn,
was a visitor at tho Vaughn home for
several days last week. i

chant, made his regular weekly visit

The first spraying for codling moth,
on apples has been completed in this
district.
Margaret Collins and Melvln Har
per are writing on tho eighth grade
examination this week.
Miss Helen Lydiard, who is attend
ing an art school in Los Angeles,
Cal., very pleasantly surprised her
home folks and many friends on her
arrival home Tuesday evening.
She accompanied Dr. Kingo nnd
family, who motored up from south
ern California and are now visiting
Mrs. J. IH. Lydiard and Miss Grace
Lydiard, mother and sister of -Mrs.
Kingo.
The Modoc ball team was defeated
in a close game last Sunday by the
Antelope team on the victor's home
grounds. The two teams seem to bo
about evenly matched, as each team
has taken a gitme from tho other and
in both instances by close scores.
The three members of our county
court were official visitors in this
section last Friday. They were secur
ing right of way for tho now road
and, making arrangements to .com
mence construction work on tho
same.
This road will follow tho section
line between sections nine and ton,
beginning at the Harper ranch and
running duo north and striking' tho
Antioch and Sams valley road at the
Ezra Webber place and it is claimed
will shorten the road into the
Meadows country to quite an extent.
A large crew of men and ma
chinery are nt work on the road be
tween tho Bear Creek bridge and
the Central Point cemetery and havo
tho road torn up so that it is almost
impassible. ,
Tho Table Rock school, accompa
nied by tho teacher and several par
ents and friends, attended tho field
meet last Friday at Talent and
highly enjoyed the day, besides cap
turing several ribbons in tho con
tests.
Melvin Harper captured a blue rib
bon In the broad jump, whilo little
Miss Flora Collins succeeded in
taking three ribbons in the races.
We seem to bo going through an
epoch of fenco building in this dis
trict, there being more new fences
under construction or lately finished
than for any year since tho last flood.

thero is no place like tho Rogue
River valley,' remarked Miss Helen
Lydiard upon her arrival hero after
some nine months spent in Los Angc-
le.i.
Several from this district attended
the services at Sams valley last Sun
day, conducted by a gospel team
from Medford.
Religious services will bo held at
the Tablo Rock school house nt 7:30
p. m., May 20. Tho meeting will bo

ford, composed of sincere,, Interest
ing spenkers, who will bo assisted by
able musicians and singors.

depot. Another mistake I noticed was

that he had the misfortune to have his
thumb cut in working with a spraying
machine. There was something wrong
and he started to fix it while it was
running and just then he looked
around and put bis hand la the wrong
place catching his thumb about tho f
first joint, but it was so badly bruised ;
that the doctor had to cut it back so ;
as to take about tho entire thumb.

car drove up and a young man by tho
name of Cann crawled out with a pair
of crutches and on Inquiring learned

our prominent citizens nnd wife,
started for Medford in tliolr car, she
going to have some dental work done.
Charles Hanscomb made a business
trip to Medford Saturday and J. 11.
Stello, one of our newcomers, went up
to Derby Saturday to visit his son,
returning Monday on the stage.
In my last lottor 1 spoke of Mr.
Lowe being out horo posting bills and
Saturday It. D. Henson, a foreman for
Foster & Kleiser, cumo out with a
helper nnd tore down the thveo bulle
tin boards that were standing on the
corner opposite tho blacksmith shoo
as tho lot had been sold to George
Holmes, our garage man, and he want
ed to build a large shed where they
wore standing and Monday they start
ed to put them up down by the Eagle
Point State Bank building. When it
was discovered that tho boards were
being removed there was considerable
comment as to the character of the
bills being posted as the most of thorn
were advertising tobacco in Its various
styles of putting It on the market but
mostly cigarettes, and that seemed to
be the principal objection to the
boards. In talking with Mr.'Honson
about tho remarks I had heard made
with regard to the display of the big
ads advertising tobacco ho admitted
that they were very objectionable to
many people and he himself would
much rather have diffreent ads, but
the selection was not left to them.

more, Derby, and Bud Obenchaln,
Alox Mathews, Mrs. C. A. Prultt and
J. M. King, one of the bridge builders
on the P. & E. R. R. force and Mrs.
Thomas Stanley, and the most of
these were met either at the postoffice
of at the McPherson store.

Ray D. Sloan of Grants Pass and G.
W. Rose of Medford were here for sup
per Saturday night. '
When our ladles start in to do a
neat job is demonstrated by tho way
they managed to raise funds to buy
ball suits for tho'J'JaslO Point ball
team. They arranged during tho
week to give a dance and supper last
Saturday night to secure funds and
from what I can learn had ono of the
neatest and best parties they have
had for a long time, charging one dol
lar nnd ten cents a ticket, the ten
cents for the U. S. revenue tax, and
tho receipts of the evening amounted
to $208. Wherever tho ladies start to
do a thing they always go ahead and
do It just as they did In fencing nnd
Improving tho park.
I am requosted to state that tho
Paront-Toachors association will moot
nt the school houso on the 18th of May
at 3 p. in., It being tho last mooting
when tho toachors will bo with thorn
during the season. A cordial Invita
