This was learned today following
announcement of thd indictment, 're-1
turned last month which the nu'horl
ties were said to have made every ef
fort to keep secret. Mr., Ryan turn
ed over to the authorities several j
typewritten letters, all but ono of i
which were unsigned and which were
said to have mentioned Maxwell ana
Mrs. Ryan.
The envelopes were addressed . in
.handwriting resombling envelopes
sent four years ago to several prom
inent men in this city, in each of
which-Maxwell's 'name was alleged to
havo been linked with that o the
wife of the recipient.
Investigation of the charges con
tained in the letters of four years ago
as well as those to Mr. Ryan was said
to have proved them to bo without
foundation. .
