"The Christian," Page
Maurice Tourneur presents Hnll
Calne's novel, "The Christian" in a
screen version at the Page theatre for
three days beginning tomorrow.
"The Christian" portrays life of the
present and not of a quarter century
ago when Hall Caino first- published
the novel. The stage play first was'
produced in Londan about ten years
ago. . , :
Those in charge of the enterprise
deckled "The Christian", would have
more force with present day audiences
of John Storm, as "The Christian"
should bo confronted with present day
temptations readily understood by the
present day public, and also that ''as
the story is predominantly a psycho
logical study, nothing would be gained
by hampering it with the clothing of
its original period. '
So "The Christian," in this screen
version is a man of this hour, living
his devoted life under the conditions
which now prevail, and meeting ob
stacles which wo of today know.
Powerful Story Told at Rialto
"Broken Chains," with one of the
finest and most suitable casts seen
here for some time, is the attraction
at the Rialto this week. It is the
much-heralded adaptation of the pow
erful story which won the $10,000
prize in the recent contest conducted
by the Chicago Daily News, and is full
of real thrills and vicid action.
Colleen Moore plays the part of
Mercy Boone. Ernest Torrence takes
the part of the brutal outlaw ranch
man. Claire Windsor is a New York
society girl, nnd Malcolm McGregor
interprets the hero.
The plot of the- story concerns the
regeneration of an eastern youth who
proves a coward when suddenly con
fronted by danger in his Long Island
home. To escape the odium that con
fronts him, ho goes to his ranch in the
redwood district of California and
thero meets and fulls in love with
Mercy Boone. The yo.uth champions
the girl, oven after having been bru
tally beaten. A big and most realistic
thrill is afforded by the destruction of
a treachorous bridge over a high can
yon in the mountains.
Steal Jewels in (Hotel.
KANSAS CITY, May 2. Three
masked bandits who surprised I. J
Adelson, a Jeweler and his wife in
their apartment in the fashionable
Bellerivo hotel here early today,

A Woman's Way
"I tried for four months to get my
wife to try Mayr's Wonderful Rem
edy, which I know had helped a
friend of mino who also suffered
from Btomach trouble. She Insisted
her case was different. I finally had
to bribe her with a now dress. The
first dose produced remarkrtblo re
sults, clearing up her complexion and
restoring her appetite. She can now
eat things she hadn't been able to for
many years." It Is a simple, harm
less preparation that removes tho ca
tarrhal mucus from the Intestinal
tract and allays the Inflammation
which causes practically all stornaeh,
liver and intestinal ailments, includ
ing appendicitis." One dose will con
vince or money refunded. For sale
