Several thousand members of the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows
from all over the state participated
yesterday afternoon in Portland in a
coremonloj at the laying of the corner
stone of the new (350,000 Odd Fellows
temple at Tenth and Salmon streets.
S. F. Bowman of Pendleton, grand
master of the Odd Fellows of Oregon,
placed the cornerstone which holds of
ficial records, historical papers and
other matter pertaining to the lodge.
Others who participated in the cere
mony were Governor Pierce, Colonel
W. E.' Wadaworth, grand patriarch of
the encampment; Mayor Baker and
Supreme Justice Burnett who deliv
ered the dedicatory address. The new
building will house beside the encamp
ment degree, two Rebekah lodges and
the offices of the canton and the
grand lodge of Oregon, making Port
land the center of Odd Fellowship for
the Jurisdiction of Oregon..

terms mayor of that city and formerly

died at his home in Ashland Thursday
morning from a paralytic stroke suf
fered last Saturday. He is survived
