OBITUARY
RAGSDALE There died April 7, 1923
at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
James Brisco, on South Peach street,
Mrs. Samastba Jane Ragsdale, after
an illness of over Tour years, all thi3
time being tenderly cared forby her
loving daughter. Mrs. Ragsdale was
born in Benton county, Oregon, Oct.
24, 1850, of ploner parents, being the
oldest daughter of John F, Winters
and Jane Davis, they having come to
Oregon by way of the southern route
in 1847. Mrs, Ragsdale was connected
with many pioneer families, including
the Hendricks of Lane county," Hel
micka of Polk county, Sehuck, Haines,
Hagy, Parrots of Washington county.
Those of her immediate family left
are her daughter, Mrs. James Brisco
of Medford, Jene L. Ragsdale of Trail,
Ore., one son. Her eldest son, Benja
min, passed away several years ago.
Also one daughter, Mary, passed away
at the age of eleven years. There also
remain nine grandsons, one grand
daughter and one sister, Mrs. Ellen
Albright of Heekman Ave., Medford.
The burial takes place-in the AMI
och cemetery. Rev. Mr. Leach of the
Baptist church officiating.

recent statement by Secretary Mel
lcn concerning possible redaction ot
federal surtaxes should bejnterpret
cd to Include all surtaxes and not the
higher brackets alone. It was said to
day by high treasury officials.
Mr. Mellon did not intend that his
statement should be taken to apply
