The city administration has de
cided to remodel the city hall build
ing at an estimated expense of 13000,
and has Instructed the tire commit
tee of the council, of whlcb J. H. But
ler Is chairman and B. W. Paul and
E. H. Janney are the other members,
to go ahead with the ijorkv which
will be done by day labor. ,
The chief change will be made In
the main or old building. The, plans
decided on provide for the rearrange-.
ment of the big fire department)
room. The front of thla room, where
the main fire truck now stands will
be remodeled into offices for the city
attorney and the city recorder with
a vault at its rear to hold their books
and other records. This change will
leave the quarters now occupied by,
the recorder and treasurer at the'
front of the annex building, alone for;
the treasurer's department.
The remainder of the fire depart-1
ment room will be so changed as to '
have the fire department entrance
and exit on 6th st., instead of on ;
Front street, as R has always been. I
Up stairs the city council room in ,
the main building will be moved over
to the upper floor of tha annex and
the council room will be remodeled
Into a dormitory ' the regular and
volunteer firemen. Other changes
are contemplated in the remodeling.
The upstairs of the city hall atyiex. !
which was constructed two years ago1
at an expense of about 16000, was1
never finished up and utilized until ;
recently when the city allowed Com-
pany A of the national guard to oc-'
cupy it temporarily until the national
guard armory la completed. The re- j
modeling "yill probably begin within,
the next week and while it is on.
Company A will probably have to ;
occupy other quarters.
