farmers have discovered that they
are able to accomplish more, that
they nre now stronger. The past five
years of organization have been years
of worth while achievements, tho
next five years should 1h years of far
greater accomplishments. It is up to
the farmers to rally . ground their
Farm Bureau .to take an active in
terest in - the work it? is doing in a
county-wide way, and to do all in
their power to help solve community
problem. One community problem
that needs your help is the fight
against the pocket gopher. Tho
county-wido movement that needs
your support is the dairy situation.

The activities of various clubs in
Jackson county aro reported by local
secretaries as follows:

Point writes:
Dear to the heart of every woman
Is a new anil becoming up-to-dato hat.
Of tho many helpful activities con
ducted by tho homo demonstration
agent, none Is attracting more Inter
est than that of millinery. ln proof of
this, enthusiastic classes have been
formed in nine communities: Ashland,
llellevlew and Neil Creek, Central
Point, Ittteh, Itogue River, Riverside,
Talent, Valley View and Westsidc. A
great deal ot Interest is being shown
in all of these communities as Is evi
denced by the large number nttendlns
the classes which have averaged not
less than twenty women to each class
so far held.
All phases of hat making are car
ried on under the competent and skill
ful instructions of Miss Giayce Teich
and every one seems intently interest
ed in the work.
On February nth Miss Teich called
a meeting of the leaders of the differ
ent communities to formulate plans
for these millinery classes. Plans
wero discussed and arrangements
made to hold a three or four day
course in each community and in
order to make the classes as instruc
tive as possible in this limited time,
It was decided to begin with drafting
patterns from which buckram and
wiro shapes could be made. Practice
patterns were made. Tiicn each mem
ber of the class drafted a pattern of
the shape she preferred and made a
frame. These frames or shapes wero
criticised in regard to good and bad
imints and suggestions given how
same could be made more becoming to
the individual wearer. A day was
spent on tills work interspersed by
helpful suggestions from Miss Teich,
each woman making her own hat.
At the 2nd meeting hats were cov
ered with braid or any material suit
able. Tho working up of used or old
material was encouraged. Several
hats being made out of odds and ends
not intended to look home-made but
handmade. Many women have differ
ent pieces of silk, velvet or other1
material laid away seemingly useless.
A little time, some help and sugges
tions from her home demonstrator
would convert these articles into use
fulness. Making decorations, and trimming
the hats are then taken up at the fol
lowing meetings. ,
Attractive and neatly made hats
and clothes, not necessarily expensive.
Increase one's self respect and indi
rectly Increase tho morale ot the com
munity. A woman owes It to herself at least
to look as attractively dressed as
possible.

Each lady took her sandwiches and
was provided with coffee and one hot
dish by the hostess. Miss Grayce
Teich, the home demonstration agent
for Jackson county1, instructed the ,
class in the making of hats, beginning
with the foundation work ia paper
patterns which could be transferred ;
to buckram or other frame material
and when completed were perfect i
shapes ready to be covered with braid
or whatever material desired. There j
were about 12 hats started at this j
meeting, and the most of them will be i
completed at the next meeting.
Wax ornaments that are popular ,
this season and may be used for hat
or dress trimmings were demonstrat
ed by Miss Teich. Several were made
by the class, also some new and inter-:
estlog patterns in wool flowers were
made.
There are about thirty-five mem
bers enrolled at present and several
more are expected to bcome members
soon. A great deal of interest has
been shown thus far in our meetings.

land have had dress forms made this
year tinder the supervision of Miss
Teich, homo demonstration, agent.
Fourteen of these were made at the
class held January 25th at the Library
and 10 at the same place on February
J6th. Several of these ladies who had
them made have assisted their neigh
bora in making one, so that the total
number is much more than 24, ' ' "
A three days sewing school held at
tife Valley View school house under
(direction of Miss Teich, Feb. 27, 2S
and March 1, was well attended by the
ladies of the neighborhood. Special
heln was given on about a dozen
dresses, and plans and suggestions j
were made on several others. ,

LAWTON, Okla., March 8. The
liev. Thomas Irwin, former pastor of
a local church was acquitted of a
charge of arson In. an instructed ver
dict rendered by a jury in district
court here late yesterday. The charge
grew out of a fire at Itev. Irwin's
church on the niKht ot April 22, J922.
Tho prosecution introduced what
purported to have been a conversa
tion between Kev. Irwin and 11. C.
Lwis, a member of his church re
corded by a secret telephonic device
in which the minister made alleged
incriminating reference to the fire in
