for one of the weakest nations of the world for one of the strongest.

STERN JUSTICE.
IN ENGLAND justice stern prevails, the murderess her score

worth a cent; a living one may have some use. It's bad enough
to take a man and kill him as you would a cow; that was the old
Dark Ages plan, and it should be abandoned now. But when
stern justice takes a (lame, nnd hands her to the hangman toff,
our Culture hides her face in shame, and marks the spot whero
she gets off. If hanging would abolish crime I'd give tho hang
man no rebuke; but twenty centuries of time have shown such
justice is a fluke.
