With fast action, exceodiiiBly woll do
vekied situations anl a story that
keeps the spectator absorbed from be '
Sinning to end, this latest Nellnn fea
tu re can be chalked up as another lea:
success for the young dlroctor.
There are many examples of super
lor photography, settings that have
been well chosen, acting that Is of the
best, and little bits of business intro
duced that make tho hour consumed
for the screening of tho film seem
like twenty minutes. That's the kind
of a picture it is, fast and snappy,
always attention compelling.
Featured among tho competent cant
are Richard Dix and Claire WlndBor
Uoth do good work. ' Claude Ollllng
water does well as the eccentric bank
president, while ltayinond C.riffitb
doserves a world of praiso for the
adroit manner In which ho plays the
role of "The Wop," a gang leader.
Others deserving of mention include
George Drumgold, Helen Lynch nnrt
Oeorgo Siegniann, not to mention
Jtabuy Teggy of comedy fanio.
Tho public, or that part of it who
see "Fools First," will thank Marshall
Kcllan for this, his latest contribution
to tho screen. It iB the sort of motion
-plcturo that should please most every
body, and one that provides unusually

Have you read Poter II.' Kyno's
story "Humanizing Mr. WJnsby?" If
you haven't, you can get acquainted
with the tale in n most ponsing form,
in Jack Holt's picture "Making a
Man" which was presented at the
Page theatre. Considering its favor
able reception the picture is likely to
piny to large audiences during Its run
which-lasts till tomorrow night. From
every anglo it is undoubtedly one of
the outstanding pictures of tho month.

J. V. Wytnan, wifo and son of Port

gaged rooms, remaining until Monday
morning when they moved Into one of
tho houses bolongiing to tho ex
county commissioner, James Owens

Mrs. Col. Pool also came out Saturday

F. J. Jackson, one of the timber

Ella G. llarncs of Derby, came out
on tlio Dutte Fulls stage, went to the

hor journey on to Modford returning

her homo.
S. E. Cowhill, who has been living
on the old Moomaw place, on the hill
above town, has moved into the James
Jordan house whore it will be much
handier for tho children to attend
school.
Nothing special took placo here
Sunday as tho wcathor was rathor
Inclement, and Sunday we had some
snow on the ground and Sunday night
wo had a regular old fashioned snow
storm leaving us with four inches of
snow with a hard crust of sleet be
tween the first and second courses.
I received a copy of House Dill No.
77, the anti-moonshine bill, from Port
land Saturday, and In talking with our
popular sheriff about it he said that
ho thought thatevery newspaper In
the state should print it and let those
who are Inclined to violate the prohi
bition' law can see what they are up
against, for it is no trifling matter for
a man or woman, for I see by the
papers (hat some of the women are
proved guilty of a violation of the law
and now what used to be punished by
a light fine and jail sentence is a fine
of three thousand dollars and a term
in the penitentiary. He suggested
that by publishing tho bill that it
would probably keep some one from
violating tho law and keep sonio good
family from being disgraced. If any
reader of this Item .wishes to procure
a copy of the bill they can procure It
free by sending to the Anti-Saloon
League ot Oregon, 805 Broadway
building, Portland, Oregon.
Dewey Stowell and Alex Betts, two
of our promising young men wero
here on business last Monday and
took dinner at the Sunnysido hotel.
Our school under the management
of Mrs. Josophine Holmes as principal
and Miss Ruth Wiley, primary teacher
observed Lincoln's Birthday in an ap
propriate manner. In speaking of our
school we feel proud to be able to say
that we have one of the best schools
here In the county, and the teachers
aro beloved by all of the children, and
are proud of the advancement they
are making in their studies.
Lucius Kincald, our popular mail
carrier on the route from here to
Persist via Trail, was here for supper
Monday evening. Mrs. Klncaid had
gone out to Mcdford to visit her par
ents aud Lucius said that ho didn't
liko to get his supper after working
all day, or eat a cold lunch, so he
came back to the Sunnyside. I met
Mrs. Klncaid Tuesday In the McPhor
son store so I know that she has re
turned. Lloyd A. Moss of Medford and Dr.
George D. Bishop, Salom, federal
agent for tuberculosis testing cows,
came In Monday and Dr' Bishop en
gaged a room and board for a week.
Ho has been testing tho cows In the
valley and reports that out of tho five
hundred cows he tested in and around
Central Point ho only found two that
wero troubled with tho disease, and
that throughout tho state ot Oregon
so far as tested, thero was only one
per cent found so far, a fine showing
thus far. Ho has just commenced in
this section of tho county, and la horo
writing up his reports nnd waiting for
Homo moro serum. Ho will probably
be in this neighborhood for soveral
days yet.
Claud Hutchison nnd Georgo Adams
who aro on the Frank Rhodes place,
camo In Monday with I'M dozen eggs
that they had gathered since the
Thursday before, and HenJ. Brophy
came In with SO dozen and threo large
cans of cream for the Snider creamery
of Mcdford. lly tho time our new
canal from Big Butto is in operation
thore will bo enough dairy cows In
this section ot tho county to justify
tho opening up of a creamery horo,
for with our water power and electric
power a creamery could bo operated
very cheaply, for with tho addition of
the large volume ot water from the
canal and the addition of thousands
of acres of land that will bo brought
into use thero will be thousands of
tens ot alfalfa and clover hay added
to the already liberal supply we have
here.
Among the business callers I met
besides those mentioned were George
and John Berg who are living on the
Clarno place between hero and Trail
near the Crater Lake highway.
Wm. Von der Hellen. ono of our big
contractors, has moved bis family
back here from Medford.
