News telegrams from Salem state
that house bill 15S, providing for the
state assuming JGoO of the expense of
the department of Oregon, Grand
Army of the Republic, for the next
biennium, provoked much discussion
on tho floor of the house, but was
finally passed. Several of the house
members declared they had been
urged by members of the G. A. R. to
vote against the appropriation on the
ground that the organization has suf
ficient funds to pay its own bills, but
It was declared by others who claimed
to be familiar with tho matter that
there are Internal dissensions in the
Oregon department of the G. A. R. and
that the opposition was merely an at
tempt to hnrrass the present head
officers.

Mrs. Samuel Hateman who was
operated upon at the Sacred Heart

The outlook is for fair weather for

dispatches the cold wave over western
and southern Oregon, which it was
thought had broken yesterday, is
likely to continue for a week. This

degrees higher than for several previ
