An echo of the Denver mint robbery
was heard at Portland police head
quarters Tuesday when Chief Jenkins
Issued orders to all officers to check
up on privately owned garagos and
ascertain what persons were using
thorn and also notifying the ownors
to make a report of such rentals to
the police record bureau. In review
ing police records, the chief has
learned that 75 per cent of the auto
mobiles stolen last year In Portland
were stored in privato garages. Every
convicted auto thiet who went to Mo-
Neil island penitentiary from here last
year used a private garage to store
his stolen car. , All public garages
make a dally rcixirt to the police of
tho much lues stored each night. Auto
mobile bandits have bocpnie aware of
this and aro forsaking the public stalls
for the obscure private buildings' in
the outlying districts. Port. Journal.
