Ed Coy, a sondn-law of our black smith, is making regular trips six times a week hauling a truck loud of men from .Medford to where tho Fish Lake Canal company have been work ing along the canal. Artie Vestal, one of our enterprising bachelor Reese creek farmers, was n guest at the Sunnyside Tuesday. II. A. Seman who Is running a truck between Medford and this side of Hutte Kalis, has been hero for supper Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and went on up to his camp afterward. J C. II. Nntwick, ono of the leading! contractors of Medford, was u guest at the Sunnyside Tuesday and Wed nesday. Ho is planning on taking a part of the canal from llutto Kails out to this section of the country. The following gentlemen canto out Tuesday evening with tho understand ing that there was to be a public meet ing here and havo the school bill dis cussed, but on account of a confusion of dates there hud been no notice sent out any more than thnt someone had told Will Staub of llrownsboro to an nounce it in Eaglo Point, but ho must hnve forgotten lt, so someone phoned out about 4:110 p. m. that there was to be a meeting here and thnt there would bo five hero for supper, so about 0 p. m. N. W. Ilorden, .Medford, the democratic candidate for the state sen ate, J. O. Illggs of Ashland, democratic candidate for the assembly, W. D. Hughes, Medford, Win. llradley enme in in time for supper, nnd after supper were asked where they wcro to speak, etc. They soon learned thnt tho Hrad shaw hall was rented for tho year and that there was not time at that hour to give notice, so two of them started out in search of W. L. Childretli and soon returned and settled down for the evening. Thero were a few guests re mained and the visitors told us why they wanted-the education bill should be adopted, and about 8: IS started for homo after expressing their satisfac tion nt tho way the evening had been spent. Hallowe'en eve passed off very quietly as thore was but very little mischief done. Rev. J. E. Day nnd wife nnd Mr. and Mrs. Linn of Butte Falls came out on the stage Wednesday and went on up homo. Mr. Day reports that he han sold his stock of goods ho had In his store to Paul Cnlder. J. W. Prllluninn started Wednesday on the Medford stage to go to Canada via Vancouver, M. C. Ho Intends to go to Aberdeen and from thore to North Dakota and visit friends thrco boforo he returns. Charley Humphrey has hauled all of the wood he had on hand and all lie could buy at the stump, and now Ih hauling out telephone poles for our phone manager, W. C. Clements. Earl Mathews, Charley Winkle nnd Jack Mayham spent Thursday night at the Sunnyside. Aitlnir J. Weeks, formerly of Med ford but now of Oakland, Cnllf., was a passenger on the stage on his way to an orchard ho owns on Itogue river near Peyton. He remarked that forty years ago that day he planted the Hear Creek orchard. G. W. Nelle, the auctioneer of Cen tral Point, came out from Butte Falls and took dinner at the Sunnyside. Thursday evening Hon. T. L. Thiiem ler of Grants Pass, spoke here in op position to the educational bill, hut he had a small audience, I am told, but made a good clean talk. Friday night Ralph Cowglll, tho regular republican candidate for the legislature, and Hon. C. M. Thomas, spoke hero. Mr. Cow gill opened the meeting and explnlnod how he came to be accused of being a Klansnian, that It was by five mem bers of the Loyal league who were angry because he thwarted their de signs In trying to pass a resolution In tho league three times and wore de feated each time and finally left tho hall In disgust. His speech was clean and not n word said against his oppo nents, no mud-slinging. He was fol lowed by Mr. Thomas with a cloar statement refuting the statements made here a few days ago by Renmes, Colvlg nnd Kelly, with regard to the Talent Irrigation canal and showed that the water taken from tho Apple gate river had been used In tho Talent district for the last three years. Ho exposed the way the gang had tried to trap him Into signing the statement condemning the act of some ono slip ping tho note under Judge Calkins' door by having him put his name on tho ninth lino Instead of the fourth. Ho made many friends and gained several votes that night for he spoke as a gentleman should speak, no mud slinging. The next morning almost every man I met was praising Mr. Thomas for his speech and several who had been boosting for Kelly wore boosting for Thomas. I should have said In the beginning of this account of tho meeting that notwithstanding it was a cold and dis agreeable evening there was a largo crowd, and no orchestra to call the people together, and there were fully as many as thore were when tho oth ers had their meeting and It Is Btated that at least half of the audience camo with the Reames, Kelly, Colvlg speak ers from Medford. We will nil be glad when tho eloctlon 1s over. THE ISSUE IS LAWENFORCEMENT POLITICAL CONFIDENCE V'o have no confidence in the poliliral judgment of lawyers who advise us to suport E. K. Kelly for Circuit Judge. We do have confidence In C. M. Thomas, who is our candidate for Circuit Judge. We want a Judge selected by the people and not by the political lawyers. C. M. THOMAS C. M. Thomas, our candidate for Circuit Judge has made a record during his residence In Jackson County, Oregon, which commends hlin to every law-abiding citizen as tho proper person to be elected Circuit Judge. Ills record in the Legislature and lu the State Senuto and as School Director has always been right. He has always stood for law enforcement; for the enforcement of all the laws for all tho people, not some of tht laws against some of tho people and for a violation of some of the laws b' other people. K. K. KELLY. .' ' E. E. Kelly's record III Juckson County is such that no person who Btood for the enforcement of the Prohibition Law could possibly support him for the office of Circuit Judge. His entire record and especially his record as District Attorney bus been and was such us to ally him definitely and absolutely ns a sympathizer of the Liquor traffic and most of the men who are going about the district campaigning for hlin are known sympa thizers of spld illegal liquor traffic. Wo have a wet Shorirf and a wet District Attorney campaigning for B. E. Kelly. Ills campaign managers has always been wet and Is so now. Ol'lt APPEAL V'e appeal to every law-abiding citizen of both Jackson and Josephine Counties to work for and support C. M. Thomas for the office of Circuit Judge. A man in whom our confidence Is Increasing every day because of the campaign ho Is making, demonstrating that he is a man of clean character, judicial temperament and In every way qualified to fill the office of Circuit Judge. ' The campaign of K. E. Kelly and his followers has been the most ma licious and vindictive campaign wo have ever known to be carried on In tho Slate of Oregon. In contrast Is the campaign of C. M. Thomas, ono of tho cleanest campaigns we havo ever seen carried on in this state. Unlimited sums of money are being expended in Kelly's bchnlf. We sny to all the Christian peoplo that It Is tholr duty to lay aside at this time all other occupations and dovote their time to securing the election of Mr.. Thomas as Circuit Judge.
