K. E. HODGMAN RESIGNS AS HIGHWAY

SALEM, Ore., Aug. 29. Tho state
highway department has announced
the resignation of K. K. Horigmail, di
vision engineer Btatfoned at Mcdford
and in charge of construction in south
ern Oregon.
Mr. Hodgman has been nu cnglneor
for the state highway commission
since 191(i, excepting when he wbb in
the World war. Jlo was first located
in Coos county and when the United
States declared war ho enlisted, was
ordered to the Presidio where he took
the officers training cotirso and was
given a captaincy in the heavy artil
lery. Ho was later transferred to the
aviation corpB in which he served until
tho armistice was signed, lie then re
entered the highway service and came
to Mcdford In 1919 as division engineer
and has had charge of the work in
Tho sufferings of T. J. Card, tho
county employe whoso back was
broken last Wednesday when tho
auto gravel truck, which ho was driv
ing on tho Evans creek road near
Bcaglo In somo way overturned, end
ed this, noon with Ills death at the
Hncrcd Heart hospital. Hut little

his recovery.
Mr. Card is survived by his wife
and three children, the family home
being 411 South Newtown St., his
parents who also reside on South
Newtown St., and his brothers who
live in ohtor statos. Funeral ar
rangements will bo announced later.
Mr. Card was 40 yearn old, having
been born in Ohio In 1882. Tho sur
viving daughter is Nance Vivian, and
tho surviving sons nro Preston and
Roger.
