The Portland Caravan staged a sen
sational affair in Klamath Falls ac
cording to the Portland papers, when
Fred Fleet, a local humorist read a
paper poking some good natured fun
at the city visitors. Among other
things Mr. Fleet said Portland could
supply, the bull for their exhibit of
livestock, that Klamath would exhibit
three court houses at the 192o.falr, and
that Medford had taken over all the
scenic beauties of southern Oregon in
cluding Crater Lake, and bad persuad

modest boarding house, to the amuse
ment of some of the cynical and un
sympathetic lodgers. He is not to be
deterred by their rididcule, however,
and though engaged in the grinding
routine of his Job as a clerk, his mind
is filled with the ever present possi
bility that just around the corner may
lie his opportunity to win fame and
fortune as a sleuth.
And sure enough one day he bumps
straight iuto a mystery which has
stirred the entire United States secret
service. The secret formula for a pow
erful explosive has been stolen from a
young lieutenant to whose custody It

and Fred Mills, patrolmen were proli-
abaly fatally Injured' and three o'h
ers, including two patrolmen and a
street car motorman were hurt when
a police automobile crashed Into a
street car at Ninth and Pino street to
day. According to Motorcycle Pa
trolman F. A. Pieree.'who was chas
ing the automoble because of its high
speed, Ignorant of the fact it con
tained police officers, said It was go
ing at the rate of 40 miles an hour.
The patrolmen in the machine were
on duty.
