AGE'S PENALTIES.
I'VE grown so old that nil things pall; existence has no simp
at all. There are no mysteries for me the end of everything I
see. I pick up a detective tale that makes a younger reader pale;
in Chapter One there is a crime that gives the cops a beastly
time. And younger readers, full of awe, go with the minions of
the law; with them are baffled and perplexed, with them are buf
faloed and vexed. Hut I, who've read of tales a ton, can see the
end when I've begun. I spot the villain every time, and know

do, how they will follow up the elew. And when I see a speaker
rise, the glow of ardor in his eyes, to elocute for half a day, I
know just what he's bound to say, and know that it will make
me sore, for I have heard it all before. And when a doctor views
my tongue, and puts his ear against my lung, and shakes his
head as though assured that I can nevermore be cured. I know it
is the same old thing docs sprung when Pharaoh was a king. I've
lived so long, I've grown so wise, this world can give me no sur

Irrigation District
Bonds
MEDFORD, Aug. 2. Although
$150,000 bonds of this issue were fe-
serred especially (or residents of Med
ford and Ticinity, already $50,000
of the bonds have been sold. It may
be impossible to personally meet all
my clients and friends before the
balance has been sold. This letter is
therefore written to get the facts be
fore as many as posible.
Security Absolute
Vneteen thousand, eight hundred
acres are cOTered under the tax lien
of this issue, at the rate of $20.22
per acre. Figured against the
choicest land, 6.300 acres, presently
to be irrigated, the debt amounts to
but $63.49 per acre. The yalue of
these lands is conservatively fignred
at $1,900,000, while the bond issue
amounts to but $400,000. These
lands will increase in Talae and the
bonded debt will be reduced by an
nual payments. .
