About 11 years ago Court Hall used
to have a baseball team' in Medford,
hut now he Is mainly concerned in
pears, the klan talk In Medford and
j thetstanillng of the Beavers. It will be
observed that Interest in the Portland
team conies third. The crop of De
Anjou pears which Mr. Hall has this
year will yield him about $1000 an
acre. He sold his crop of pears for
about ?l net. Mr. Hall maintains that
his DeAnJou crop is the finest looking
that has been seen in the Rogue River
country for a long time. As for the
klan activities, Mr. Hall predicts that
they will subside in Medford since the
recall movement fostered by that or
ganization was defeated last Saturday.
"There were more votes cast in the
recall election than there were In the
primaries," said Mr. Hall, "and It was
a regular old-time campaign, in which
both sides hustled around to get
people out to vote." Mr. Hall Is at tile

behest of Bob Brown, manager of the
Med ford Athletic club, agreed to make
the club license for Its three amateur
weekly boxing exhibitions and one pro
fessional exhibition, each month, $50
ror tho rour exhibitions. Heretofore
the license roe has been $15 ror each
amateur exhibition, nnd $30 Tor eacli
professional bout, a tax which Mr.
Brown found he could not stand and
pay expenses, especially during the
summer months. The bouts given by
tlie club under the management of Mr.
Brown have been so excellent and
clean that these exhibitions have won
popular favor nnd commendation.

OBITUARY
CASAD Ralph Emerson Casad was
claimed by death in the granite City
hospital at Ashland, Oregon at 6 a. in.
on the 27th of July where he had
undergone a major operation ror intes
tinal trouble three days before. After
a short rally be gradually grew worse
until tiie end came which was peace
ful. He had asked for the members of
his family who were speeding on fast
trains i'foi different parts of.the coun-

His mother, Mary E. Casad of Los
Angeles, and his niece, Ethel M. Moss
of Santa Barbara, Calif., were the only
members from a distance that readied
ills bedside in time. They hud their
tickets and baggage checked for the
Hawaiian Islands when they received
the word. They cancelled their trans
portation and caught the last train ar
riving before his death..
Ralph E. Casad was among the earls
native sons of Johnson county, Kansas,
having been born at a place called
Rquiresville on tho old Santa Fe Trail,
two and one-fourth miles due east of
Ocheltree. March IS, 1809. He was the
fourth child of Isaac D. and .Mary Eliz
abeth James Casad, and the first to
depart this life after reaching matur
ity. nis rather died when Ralph was
nearlng seventeen years or age leaving
his mother with rive younger children
Ralph assumed the roll of a father to
them and w-as of great service to his
mother and the younger children in
those days of trials. His duties in his
new field cut his school career short
having up to this time attended the
local district school at Ocheltree.
At the age of twenty-one he became
united in marriage to Etta Hartley,
the eldest daughter of Joel Hartley
who lived near Busyrus. To this couple
were born one son and one daughter,
Arthur, Willard and Florence Julia.
Wlllard Casad at present Is married
and has rive children, three boys and
two girls, nnd is living nt New Plym-
oth, Idaho. Florence married Charles
Etem and is living in Minneapolis,
Minn.
Ralph Casad at the time or his death
was living on a ranch near Talent, Ore.
He lived in Johnson county about 30
years. After leaving the old home
w here ho was born he moved to Kan
sas City, Mo., for about seven years in
1900. In 1913 hp moved to Hickman
Mills, Mo., and engaged In farming and
dnlrylng for six years. Selling his dairy
he and his wife went overland in an
automobile from there to Talent, Ore
He is survived by his wife, Etta, his
mother, Mary E. Casad. a sister, Cor
nella Casad Moss of Santa Barbara,
Calif., a sister, Helen Hartley, Vancou
ver, Wash., a sister, Irene Casad Hart
ley of Covina, Calif., a sister, Ora M.
llurk of TUyrtle Creek, Ore., a sister,
Eva Casad Bates of Redondo Beach,
Calif., a brother, Roland C. Casad of
Los Angoles, Earl P. Casad, Newbury
