showed today that the crowd was

was made, it was reported Leonard
got $25,000 for scoring hts eitfht

Buffalo challenger and Kansas re
ceived $15,000.
Leonard, with Billy Oihson. his
manager, left today for Kew York to
prepare for his championship en
gagement with L-cw" Tendler, the
Philadelphia lightweight to be de
cided at Jersey City, July 27.
Kansas, badly upset by his defeat,
will return home tonight. Ho plan
ned to hove an X-ray picture made
today of his broken arm. The arm
was encased in splints after two phy
sicians examined the Injury, said to
have been suffered in the third round
when Kansas blocked a fast right I
hand chop by Leonard.
Leonard, In action 'yesterday, look- I
ed like a finely trained athlete. He
did not make a false move and was I
master of Kansas from the start. He
boxed with amazing skill and his '
footwork was perfect. He hit sharply :
and with astonishing accuracy.
'Ho is tho gamest lightweight,"
said Leonard of Kansas. "If it is
true his arm was broken his game-
ness Is all the more remarkable."
Kansas was humiliated because his
manager, Dan Rogers, tossed a
sponge into the ring In the eighth
round.- He was all in as he fell into
Rogers' arms after standing up two
minutes and 27 seconds of the eighth
round under a hurricane fusillade of
Leonard's rights and lefts. He pro
tested because the contest was
stopped.
'I could not stand to see a game
fellow like Kansas get punched
when he did not have full use of
both arms," Rogers said. "It was the
merciful thing to do."
Kansas, bleeding and groggy from
a series of wicked hooks to tho jaw,
was helpless before Leonard. His
arms were hanging and ho was not
capable of defending himself. It was
only a question of Leonard hitting
him a solid smash to send him to the
mat, but the sponge fell Into the ring
without a knockdown having been
scored.

gives an amusing portrayal of a rubber
heel salesman full of enthusiasm and
pep.
Reaching the town of flellport, which
Is so small that it is almost impossible
to find it on the map, Martin Tripp,
the salesman, calls on the owner of the
general store, Abner Grey. Ulissfully
unaware that the residents of small
towns do not look kindly on rubber
heels, Martin breaks into an eloquent
spiel. Grey almost becomes apopleptic
trying to convince Martin that he is
not Interested, hut the youthful sales
man is not easily discouraged and he
continues to expound the virtues of his
product In glowing terms.
