PEKING. June 20 Word Hint Amor,

to American proporty was not stated.
The consul had protested to Sun Yat

tions here. Two thousand persons

ened and went to Hongkong.

vote, the American Federation of La
bor convention today refused to con
sider a resolution proposing that it
congratulate Alexander Ho watt an J
August Dorchy, leaders of the Kansas
miners, for their stand against the
Kansas Industrial court. The decision
was referred to the United Mine Work
ers of America.
During the debate, tho He was
passed between President John L
Lewis of the Miners' union, who ex
pelled Howatt and Dorchy from tho
miners' organization, and Joseph
Lynal, a delegate from the Peoria
trades and labor assembly, who Intro
duced tho resolution. When Lynal
sought to dlBCUBS tho resolution, Lewis
made a point of order. Merits of the
point was discussed by the convention
and frustrated by President UomperB,
who was presiding.
"Ib the American Federation of La
bor going to double-cross Howatt and
Dorchy the same as John L. Lewis
has done?" asked Lynal, who then
added that "Howatt was a delegate to
the convention but was not present be
causo he is in jail, where ho was sent
by Lewis."
Mr. Lewis then pressed his point of
ordor and while Mr. Gompers was re
peating "his ruling, Lynal interrupted
to reiterate, his assertion that Howatt
had been sent to jail by Lewis.
"The gentleman is a plar!" said
Lewis. "So are you, Jack!" rejoined
Lynal.

the senate today failed, the senate
adopting 61 to 22, a motion by Senator
Watson, republican, Indiana, to lay on
the table a motion by Senator Walsh,
democrat, Massachusetts, to displace
the tariff bill with the bonus.
This Is the third time that an effort
has been made to postpone, delay and
by that means, kill this bill," said the
Massachusetts senator.
Senator Robinson, democrat, Arkan
sas, declared that the object of today's
proceeding was to prevent passugo of
the bonus bill at this session.
This bill is being made the football
of contemptible ikiIUIcs," said Senator
Robinson. "I nk you aftor two years
of playing with this question to stand
up like men and dispose of it."

from Mexico to the state department
this afternoon said the government
offices at the International bridge at
Laredo were abandoned, that 1500
persons In Nuevo Laredo had been
driven from their, homes and that
business houses, including two Amer
ican stores had been flooded. i
Troops were guarding the flooded
area and train schedules across the
river had boon annulled. The con
sulate building In Neuvo Laredo was
still 15 feet above wa'.or when the
message was sent.

Bodies of several flood victims have
been seen floating down the Rio
Grande at Mier, Mexico, 130 miles
west of Matamoros and opposite
Roma, Texas, according to telegraph
ic advices received at Matamoros late
today.
