ASHLAND, Juno 19. Five 'hundred
dollars has been appropriated Bolely
for i decorations incident to the cele
bration on the 3rd and 4th. Most of
these awards will go to contestants In
parade features. However, a first prize
of f 25 and a second one of $10 will be
awarded to the winning store and real
donee respectively, conditions applying
to the latter being that It must be sit
uated on the line of inarch. Remem
ber that practically nil of the prizes
entered below are open to all comers,
while several are absolutely restricted
to places outside of Ashland, the list
following:

In order to meet these prize require
ments, $300 has been added to the $200
contributed by Jesse Winburn. The
Llthlans will have charge of the pa
rade, and have been meeting lately In
order to perfect arrangements. The
organization numbers thirty, all young
and lively guys who are up to snuff fh
originating stunts which would do jus
tice to a Shrine patrol. A trip thruout
the valley, also Including Klamath
Falls and northern California,' will ho
undertaken this week to advertise the
big shows.
The Modern Woodmen moot at
Moose hall, Monday evening June lit,
to act upon further adoptions. A class
of nearly 40 will bo adopted at Mod
ford, June 29, other Woodmen camps
throughout the vulloy being invited to.

Two entortalnmeuts are scheduled
for Tuesday evening, one a recital by
the music pupils of Madame Tracy
Young, at the Armory, offering takqn
for benefit of the Civic Improvement
club. The other will bo a literary treat

The Christian church will have a
new, pastor, Mrs. Chainplo having re
signed, the field to bo occupied later
by a new appointment under considera

aviator at the Portland Hobo fostlval,
this .referring to A. II. Mackenzie of
this city. Among tho skillful tests will
be transferring from ono plane to an

merce for a long period has been dovel
oping since tho supremo court In late
May ordered dissolution of the Central
Pacific and the Southern Pacific pro
perties. A degree of local interest has
been aroused which is rarely equalled
over railway affairs.
. Representatives of the Southern and
Union Pacific lines have been very
active in . getting the support of the
various chambers of commerce In Ore
gon to lino up with one or the other of
the Interests.,
It is evident that there is a question
involved that will affect Medford and
before the citizens of this community
go on record as favoring either side,
they should hear representatives from
both railways. . "
The Union Pacific view point will be
presented by tho general freight agent,
H. E. Lounsbury, at the forum of tho
Medford chamber of. commerce at the
Medford Hotol next Wednesday noon.
The business men of Medford should
be vitally interested to hear both sides
of this controversy as there may be an
opportunity here that eventually will
change the present high freight rates
to lower ones.

"Saturday Nl9ht" Tonight
Cecil B. IleMilio's latest picture pro
duction, "Saturday Night," will close
tonight nt tho Pago theatre. This is a
delightful picture with a tremendous
story and an all star cast of players.
Attractions for tho coming Fourth
of July celebration in Yreka on the 1st,
2d, 3d and 4th are lining up rapidly.
Manager Gillis has already more than
enough to fill the time and has turned
several of them down.
To begin with the lily Rodeo will
have a big show. Perhaps larger
strings of bucking horses may have
been put out, but no more willing buck
ers nor vicious jumpers have ever been
saddled and turned out of a chute. No
horse nor rider Is barred. Any animal
that can buck, and buck right, Is want
ed, and any man who wants to enter
for tho contests is welcome.
Those of the celebrants who like to
watch clever boxers will have a chance
on the evening of Monday, 'the 3d,
when an open air contest will be
staged in the park with three main
ovents,. Tills will be under tho man
agement of Hen Dixon.
Thon the baseball: Sunday, Monday
and Tuesday the fans will have a
chance to see'somo real ball tossing.
Yreka will go up against her ancient
and militant enemy, Weed, and the
toani from Dunsmulr will also have a
J try at tho prizo money. ;
One of the real contests of tho ses
sion will be the series of relay races
between Murphy of Ashland and Hol
brook of Merrill. Those men will bring
a string of fast ponies and each day
will run a race, the winner take all.
The Dokeys will be down there on
Monday and already fresh meat is be
ing spotted for tho tiger. This tiger,
by the way, is especially vicious on
Fourth of July celebrations. Many of
tho Medford Knights of Pythias will
follow the team which will be accom-
panled by the band. This Dokey band
. Is the best amateur organization in tho
; state of Oregon and has been engaged
j for tho celebration hole for Tuesday,
