PREMIER KATO
r. TOKIO, June 10. (By the Asso
elated Press) Admiral Tomosabure
Kato, Japan's new premier, today
.pledged the faith of Japan to eo-ope-rato
with the other world powers for
a further reduction of armaments
and the maintenance of the new era
of peace whjeh he said had been
Ushered in by the Washington con
ference. In brief, Japan's foreign policy,
from which this cabinet will not de
part, is so co-operate with the powers
In the spirit as well as to the letter
.of the covenant of the league of na
tions and the treaties and resolutions
signed at Washington, with the view
that concord and friendship may
continue and develop among the na
tions and that reduction of arma
ments may steadily progress to re-,
rfiovo the difficulties and burdens of
mankind," premier Kato said. "The
Japanese cabinet will endeavor to
bring about an expeditious and ami
cable adjustment of the problems re
lating to Siberia," do declared,
i TnB principals of concord and co
operation which were promoted by
the powers at Washington, espec
ially in regard to China, wore fun
damental policies for Japan," ho con
cluded.
" TOKIO. (Correspondence of Asso
ciated Proas). TllG residents nf Tnkln
and vicinity who experienced the earth
quake or April 26, when their houses
rocked like shins In a hnaw sen and
moveable articles fell from tables and
sideboards, have hardly been re
assured by the statement of Dr. Fusa-
Kicni umorl, famous seismologist and
jirofessor of the Imperial university,
that future shocks will at theicgreat
cst be about double the force of the
last quake. The late one was consid
ered bad enough. A wall around the
imperial palace which had withstood
shocks for JsOO years fell into the sur
rounding moat; modern granite wolls
Were damaged and a new reinforced
concrete building, one of several under
construction by American firms, and
which are believed to be earthquake
proof was slightly shocked. However,
Dr. Omorl says these buildings being
oh more fragile ground than other
Tokio buildings, have proved their
ability to withhold and shock that
" might in future visit the city.valthough
the last quake was only one-sixth the
intensity of the shock of 1855 when
60,000 houses were destroyed and G700
tlbaths resulted. .

" Lumber cut during .the week totalled
83,337,011 feet with sales of 04,180,847

. THE HAGUE, '"June 15 All
sessions wi)l .be absolutely secret,
it was announced today, when
newspapermen entered the pal-

to be helpless in the situation.
Many of them expressed annoy

big meeting of strikers later in the

demonstrations for several weeks and
