After attorney P. J. Newman for
tho defense had changed the plea of
not Builty which K. Suzuki made this
morning In Justice Taylor's court to
guilty and th?n naked for leniency,
Suzuki Was sentenced to GO days in
the county jail and to pay a fine of
$300 on a charge of having unlaw
fully having possessed intoxicating
liquor.
Huzukt was arrested this morning
and was allowed until 2:00 p. m. to
secure an attorney to represent him
in court. When arraigned this
morning ho pleaded not guilty. "When
Mr. Newman arrived to defend him
this afternoon he inspected tho still,
the liquor and the large crocks which
had contained mash which were in
the courtroom and whch the of
ficers had confiscated when they
raided tho gardener's residence this
morning and then advised the court
that the defenso wished to change
the plea to guilty.

othy raided the Japanese gardener's
residence at the end off "West Main
street this morning and confiscated
approximately 3 gallons of moon
shine which tested 60 per cent alco
hol by volume, one still which had
been constructed by fitting a copper
tubing condensing coil to the lid of
a National Steam Cooker and two
large crocks which had contained
fig mash from which tho liquor was
being made. '
The officers stated that Suzuki
made the liquor from wormy and im
perfect figs purchased in large quan
tities from local grocery stores. In
trying to determine the severity of
tho sentence and to ascertain the
worthiness of the defense plea for
leniency. Justice Taylor questioned S.
B, Sandefer and Chief of Police Tim
othy both of whom declared that re
sponsible sources of information hud
told them that the defendant had
been delivering the moonshlno In
baskets of lettuce and concealed in
other garden produce.

Mining engineers are giving very
favorable reports on the War Kagle
Mine, one of the most productive
quicksilver mines In the west. Many
prominent Medford business men have
subscribed stock and are taking an ac
tive part in 'Its development. Pros
pects, for the future of the War Eagle
mine are bright and when the present
program of the directors is carried out
this mine will be known throughout
I the country and will provide a mater
1 lal payroll Increase for southern Ore
gon.
1700 reet of drifts, tunnels and
stopes have already been constructed
and work is being rushed on a grenter
tunnersystem. A $10,000 furnace has
been installed with a 35 ton per day
capacity. Several cottages have been
built in addition to the bunk-house,
cook-house and other mine buildings.
The holdings of the company amount
to 620 acres of well timbered, well
watered lhnd situated on Evans creek
i twenty-five miles north of Medford.
I There is a seven-year indicated supply
of ore at the present time. Tho Med-

year under present conditions of con
