eral trade commission' has dispatch
ed a formal complaint against the
Bethlehem Steel corporation alid the
Lackawanna Steel corporation case
charging they have and are using un
fair methods of competition. The
complaint grows out of the merger
recently efrected by the two compa
nies. ' ' '
The commission 'made this an
nouncement today In a report to the
senate in response to the recently
adopted resolution of Senator LaFol
lotte of Wisconsin, directing inquiry
Into the merger by the commission
and the department ot Justice.

The trial of Cliff S. Larking, charged
with a statutory offense involving a
lli year old girl began In the circuit
court this morning. vu.i-.
Under, the new -women juror' law;
in a case where the prosecuting, wit
ness is a woman or' girl, the prosecu
tion is entitled to have six women on
the, jury, and there are, only three such,
all residents of Ashland, on the panel
now. On a new venire issued by the
court Saturday, out. of 12 names drawn
seven were women, and none respond
ed. In the present term of court 92
names have been' drawn, from whldh
three women jurors were secured. The
stute has a right under the law to de
mand six women jurors. .
All prospective jurors were asked if
the fact that the defendant suffered
from defective speech and hearing,
would influence their verdict through
sympathy.
Mrs. Alice J..Peil of Ashland was
drawn as juror, and excused by the
defense by the. exercise of Its peremp
tory. Mrs. Louisa! A. Perozzi, also of
Ashland, was excused by the. defense.
The district, attorney -when the jury
box was filled, made a motion that the
trial be continued, owing, to the law,
that six women be on the jury was not
complied with.. The -court-denied the
motion. The jury is composed entirer
ly of men. , .-
