The -peered concert given Sunday
evening at the First Baptist church
proved to be one of the most pleasing
and popular of the year. The church
was filled and a number of chairs were
used. The orchestra rendered two
fine selections at the opening. The
program presented a great variety of
anthemns, solos, male and ladies' quar
tets. Rev. F. R. Leach gave a short
personal message on "What Shall I

Commercial fishing season on the
upper Rogue will open at midnight of
Thursday, May 25. A number of local
fishermen are planning to operate this
year and although there are plenty of
fish in the river, the prospects for a
good start are slight, they say. The
high water is held to be a handicap to
the letters and the present outlook is
that the water will continue to stay up

Funeral services were held today in
Ashland over Martha V. lVrter, wife
of Frank E. Porter, who committed
suicide by hanging near her home at
Deter, Ore., about four tulles south of
Ashland last Thursday forenoon. She
was aged 31 years, and had made three
separate attempts to end her life by
hanging, it is said. Mr. Porter left
Thursday morning to take their little
girl to school. Upon returning home
he was unable to find Mrs. Porter and

until late in the evening before the
body was found In the mountains some
distance from the house.
