ball bond for Valentino's release was
later deposited with Justice Bowser.
The bondsmen were Miss June Mathis,
scenario writer; George Melford, di
rector at the Lasky studio, who has
directed Valentino In several of his
pictures and Thomas Meighen. well
known motion picture actor.
LOS ANGELES. May 20. A
charge of bigamy was placed against
Bodolph Valentino, screen actor, at
the district attorney's office with the
Issuance of a felony complaint follow
ing the Hollywood actor's marriage
last Saturday in Mexican to Miss
Winifred Hudnut, also known as
Natcha Rambova, while he was legal
ly married to Jean Ackert, a movie ac
tress. Valentino was taken before Jus
tlco Bowser and pleadod not guilty to
the charge of bigamy growing out of
bin marriage In Mexican, Mexico,
Saturday to Winifred Hudnut, known
also us Natacha Rambova, while he
was legally married to Jean Acker,
actress In whose divorce case only
an interlocutory decree was handed
down last January.
Attorneys for the motion picture
actor announced that he had not com
pleted arrangements to furnish ball
of 1 10,000. He was permitted to
leave court In custody of a deputy
sheriff and his attorney and make an
effort to arrange bail to obtain release
from arrest.
The complaint was Issued today
following recoipt of information from
detectives Bent by the district attor
ney to make an investigation in the
Imperial Valley and Mexico Into the
mnrriuge and honeymoon of Valen
tino and his second bride. These de
tectives, it was announced, interview
ed the Mexican judge who performed
the ceremony and arranged for send
ing of certified copies of the mar
riage return to Los Angeles.
The detectives also reported that
Investigation at Palm Springs, a re
sort at the head of the Imperlul Vol
ley, revealed that a bridal party was
held there Tuesday night when Val
entino and tho brldo were entertained
by a number of motion picture people
of Ho' ly wood. It was reported that
Mine. Nazimova was present at the
party.

WALLA WALLA, Wash., May
20. George Seroggle, salesman,
24 years of age, ahot and fatally
wounded his wife, Ruth, aged 24
here about eight o'clock this mor-
nlng and then turned the gun on
himself, the bullet penetrating
the heart. The man died shortly
after the arrival of police officers,
while the woman Is lying at
death's door at a local hospital.
The couple bad been married two
weeks, according to statements
made by them to local people.
They came here from Lewiaton,
Idaho. Jealousy Is believed to be
the cause of Scroggie's act.

Governor Oleott carried Medford
by 20 votes the unofficial totals for
Medford complete giving Oleott 587
and Hall 567. ,
On the other state offices in the
ctty the so-called Ku Klux Klan ticket
put over Dalziel for state labor com
missioner by eight votes, the totals
standing Dalziel 53S and Gram 530,
while Thiehoff also endorsed by the
K. K. K. for the public service com
mission polled 501 votes to 303 for
Campbell, anti-Ku Klux Klan and
218 for Layman also anti Ku Klux.
On the other hand the candidate
for state treasurer, endorsed by the
K. K. K. was defeated by Ryan In
Medford by a vote of 620 to 562, a
majority of 58, while Fithlan endors
ed by the K. K. K. for republican
state committeeman was defeated by
Ralph Williams by 189 votes, the to
tals standing for Fithlan 454, and tor
Williams 643.
The recall of Williams and Buchtel
of the public service commission was
lost in Medford and both men were
endorsed by comfortable majorities.
Hawley. the old reliable, as usual
showed his tall to all pursuers. In
Medford. with a vote of 592 to 396
for Norblad of Astoria and 169 for
Fisher.
On the county ticket, Gus Newbury
for circuit judge, who toolj a public
stand against the K. K. K. was de
cisively beaten in Medford, the final
count being, for Cv'ewbury 363, for
Thomas 874, a majority for Thomas
of 511.
Delbcrt Fehl, who also publicly op
posed the K. K. K. was low man for
the state legislature, with Cowgill
who took no public stand on the ques
tion leading the ticket, with 735
votes, Carkin, who took no public
stand on the question, but was not as
tar as known endorsed by the K. K.
K., 673, and Fehl 375.
In the county commissioner race, In
which the K. K. K. controversy did
not enter, Alford of Phoenix, ran like
a scared rabbit against Tom Simpson
of Ashland, the complete Medford
vote being, Alford 735 and Simpson
307, a majority of 42S.
