10 ESTABLISH A
BUREAU Ifl CIIY
Med ford's lmorta:ice as the south
.vtn gateway entrance Into Oregon
and out to California, anil In being
thn chief gateway to Crater Lake, in
view of the rapidly growing auto
tour lut traific to the Pacific coast
from all parts of the country, which
this year will far exceed all previous
records, Is recognized by the fact
that In this city will he established
two important tourists' Information
bureaus.
Last week it was announced that
ll.e Oregon Tourist Information Bu
reau, wiikh Is financed by a state ap
propriation of 112,000, with head
quarters In I'ortland, would establish
a branch bureau In Medford, which
will bit In operation next week, with
headquarters In tho Chamber of Com
merco meeting building.
Now ci.-mo3 the news that the Ore
gon State: Motor association, which is
f filleted with the 'American Auto
mobile utsorlatlon. headquarters in
Portland, has Just established a!
branch bJreau in Medford, with the
Intent'on t f maintaining it the year
arourd, with Arthur F. Hazolrigg of
Ihto city, in charge. This bureau Is
housed in the former barber Bhop de
fartment of the Hotel Medford, and
.Mr. ilazelrigg opened up the local
branch oTflro yesterday.
ThjH branch bureau Is located here
through the efforts of Mayor C. E.
times, who Is an officer ot the Ore
gon State Motor association and who
w hen at Portland last week succeeded
in havl.ig tho association consent to
the establishment ot the Medford
branch office. A. E. Shearer of Port
land, managor of thn association, has
been hero this woek assisting the
mayor and Mr. Hazelrlgg in estab
lishing the branch bureau.
All facilities of the Portland
office, In tho way of map service,
road Information, insurance, etc.,
for members of the association and
vinltlns tourists will be maintained
on an adequate a- ale at the Medford
brunch. It was announced.
"Thn association has desired for a
long time to place a branch at Med
ford," Shearer stated, "but hitherto
has been unable to do so, Medford
may be considered the gateway to
Oregon from the south and a branch
of thn club is most desirable there
for lh benefit of motorists coming
Into the atate over the Pacific High
way from California. The club will
be able to welcome the visitors to
Oregon and to render them service
designed to make thnlr stoy In Ore
gon enjoyablo ami profitable. Med
ford was looked upon as a partlcu
lurly durable location for a branch
for another reason and that Is be
cause it Is the gateway to Crater
Luke. Oregon's national park will
sen a greater number of motor tour
ists this year than ever before In its
history and the motor association
branch at Medford will be fn a posi
tion to guide motorists to the lake
and to aid them in making the run.
Special maps and Information facili
ties will be maintulned to care for the
Crater Lake motorist!."
