This typo is nil, too rare in the stato legislature, as anyone who has
made a study of that institution, knows. Hut as Mr. Sheldon declares
;a his statement today, there is no issue between him and Mr. Dunn,
they differ widely in temperament, but not in essential principles or
integrity of character.
Moreover, the progressive type is today suffering a certain
eclipse. There, is a wide-spread feeling iu this 'section and through
out the state that the onward rush should halt for a time and that re
construction, retrenchment and sound business readjustments are the
critical needs, rather than full speed ahead.
At such a time dndge Dunn's characteristics qualify him particu
larly well for political office. He is a fine example of the honest, re
liable, conservative.
So, while there is reason for true Progressives to regret Mr.
! Sheldon's retirement, there is also reason for Jackson county, as a
I whole to be grateful that a man of Judge Dunn's standing and cali-1,-.-.
