An article In the last Issue of Har

happened to be named, and no less a
personage than Mark Twain is author

bakery sign was painted and hung up
to dry, upside down, with the "B" out
of sight Along came a prospector,
and after studying the sign for a few
minutes, said: "It's Yreka!" So ever
after the county sent of Siskiyou coun
ty was thus designated. The article
also states that at one time, Bret

stories ran a newspaper in the city.
