Qffutt, day clerk at the Oxford, on
reading the reference to John llrow n's
trial in lha Daily Courier of Monday,
was reminded of his visit to the scene
of the execution. Mr. Ofrutt's grand
father was a member of the Virginia
legislature- and attended the Hrown
trial. The day before the executiou
he took young Offutt, then a lad of $

Charles-Town. The town was full of
wild rumors and his mother insisted
on being taken home before the execu
