gators of the murder of William Des
mond" Taylor, film riirertor, were
waiting today to see If anything would
result from the announcement of
Thomas I.eo Woolwine, district at
torney that Edward, F. Sands, miss
ing former butler-secretary to Taylor,
would not be prosecuted on an embez
zlement charge preferred by hi
former employer, if Sands coutd prove
himself Innocent of the slaying cf
Taylor and "untangle this murder
mystery."
Woolwlne'a announcement follow
ed receipt of a letter purporting to
have been written hy Sands. The
writer stated he was In I.os Angeles,
was not guilty of the murder of Tay
loy, but could name the murderer
and solve the mystery of the slaying.
He inquired whether he would be set
free ii case he surrendered himself
and proved his innocence of the slay
ing. Woolwine stated he had no means
of knowing whether the letter was
genuine but that he and his investlga-
tors thought it better to "treat tt ss
such" In the hope that tt was.

Woolwine today but the district at
torney said afterward that "nothing
definite" had come from the confer
ence. He said he felt the most Im
portant thing to be done was to get
in touch with Kdward F. Sands,
missing secretary-butler of Taylor.
Sands was offered immunity by
the district attorney last night on
au embezzlement charge on file
against him it he would come out of
h'ding and tell what he know of the
slaving of Taylor.
Mr. Woolwine said he was expect
ing further information from Chi
cago or Rockford, 111., concerning
Mrs. Margaret Snyder, reported to
have said she knew Taylor and Sands
and that Taylor had been married
three times.
