PRESIDENT HARDING SAYS, "If the churches fail
in their high and holy tasks there is small hope for civiliza
tion. It is our determination not to fail, and our fixed
purpose to render a larger and more constructive service to
the city of Medford and the Rogue River Valley.
The Official Board has adopted a goal of $75,000 for a New Church to
be built in the civic center at Main and Laurel streets. The best
church and community building experts in the Northwest have given
the assurance that for this sum the following may be had:
v
A Building of Distinctive, Churchly Design that in itself will be a credit to the
city and will house:
1. An Auditorium for Worship, with comfortable seats for a maximum of 700
people. A Pipe Organ and real Art-glass Windows will be features here.
2. A School of Religious Education, with separate departments for beginners,
primary, junior, intermediate, young peoples' and senior divisions, with a total
maximum capacity, estimated on the basis of modern educational methods, of 700.
3. A Gymnasium or Recreation Hall, equipped for basket-ball, volley-ball, indoor
baseball and other wholesome recreational activities for young and old. This
may also be used for community meetings, moving picture programs, pageants
and plays as it will seat, with gallery, 600 people. An adjoining kitchen will
make possible the use of this hall for church and community dinners.
4. An Epworth League Room. This will be used also for one of the depart
ments of the Sunday School, and meetings of the women's organizations.
5. Nursery, where parents may leave their babies while attending service or
other meetings.
6. Facilities for organized class and club work for all ages. ;
In a sentence, it is our plan to erect an imposing church structure
housing an equipment that will enable us to translate the teachings
and ideals of Christ into practical and efficient community service.
"The Church the Servant of the Community" is our motto.
