CHICAGO, Nov. 14. Klx of the
world's leading 18.2 balkline billiard
players, representing thi'eo nations,
will compete in tile first international
championship tournament : staged in
sixteen years a week from Monday
when Willie Hoppe, the present title
holder, will defend his title- here in a
tournament continuing for eight days.
The contestants will be ttlopper, Hie
champion; Edouard HorseinaiiH, the
llelgian; Iloger Conti, the French
champion; Welker Cochran; Youns
Jake Schaefer, son of the famous wiz
ard; Ora .Morningstar and George Sut
ton. Total purses aggregating $0730 have
been offered as prizes. Of this amount
$J000 will be awarded the winner. To
the runner-up. $1500 will lie given, and
prizes of $loo(), $750 and $250 will be
awarded those finishing third, fourth
and filth.
Games in the 'tournament will con
sist of -100 points each unless in tho
event of. a tie for first place in which
case 500 points win be played to de
termine tlio winner. Three matches a
day will he the program until a round
robin in which each of the players
meets every other player, is finished.
The six who will play for Willie
Hoppe's crown lyivo been selected by
a tournament committee after a thor
ough study of the record of the many
entrants In tournament and exhibition
play over a long period of years. Four
of the players are Americans. Two of
them, Welker Cochran and Jake
Schaefer, are youngsters who have
held their places in the cue hall of
fiyne since they were in i heir 'teens.

lender, is well known to tho American
public since his exhibition tour of the
states last year. He enjoys the facul
ty of occasionally turning a 100 point
game in one inning and has a series
of high runs which compare favorably
