The trlul of Ernest (Dud) Wolga-
mott, charged with the sale of In
toxicating liquor was begun in tho cir
cuit court this morning and the work
0 of selecting a jury occupied tho morn
ing' session. Tho defendant is repre-
Kented by Attorneys Gus Newbury and
George Roberta, and the Htate by Dis
trict Attorney ttawlos Moore.
A Bpecial venire was issued for the ;
trial of the case, which juomiHCa to
be bitterly fought.
The tentative jurors called to the
box were questioned at length by both
sides. Tho defense asked each jury
man if he believed in the "employ
ment of Htool pigeons to induce men
to commit crime." The state counter
ed this query with the one, towlt: "are
you opposed to tho hiring of detec
tives to secure evidence that other
wise could not bo obtained."
All tho jurors were asked if they
had taken an active part, on one side
or tho other In securing tho passage of
tho Prohibition laws ,and if they fa
vored a stricter enforcement of them
than any other law. Homo of tho Ju
rors said that while they did not be
lieve in the principle set forth in the I
Prohibition laws, they believed in
their enforcement, no more or no
lesR thnn any other law.
All wero also asked if they had
read newspaper accounts of the boot
leg1 raids last sum men which resulted
In the arrest of AVolgamott and others.
Most of them stated they had, but it
left no opinion either way.
Peter JJotz of Kaglo Point, was
asked by tho state if a "recent shoot
ing In Eagle Point and the action
taken by officers had prejudiced him
against U. 8. officers." limy, said no,
but previously stated that ho was ap
posed to prohibition.
