The trial of Raleigh Matthews, held
in the county jail on a charge of sec
ond degree murder in connection with
the fatal shooting of Wilbur (Wig)
Jacks at Eagle Point a month ago, will
be called in the circuit court next
week, in the ordinary course of pro
cedure. The Edwards bootleg case
took longer than expected. The civil
suit of Brown vs. Natwick. was settled
out of court.

Something is wrong with the .dogs
of the United States forestry service
in southern Oregon. Alex, the police
dog of Supervisor Hugh Rankin at
-Medford has a bad case of sleeping
sickness, and now-conies the following
item In the Orants Pass Courier: "E.
H. MacDanlels, of the forest service
department is greatly worried. He has
good reasons. His collie dog returned
home the other day, and proudly ex
hibited a wife, a black-and-tan. Mr.
MacDanlels could stand this much, but
when the proud father brought around
11 children, it was too much for the
forest service man, Ho reports that
hard luck overtook the puppies, as the
er-rain drowned seven of them.'' -.
