J'ViLLE SCHOOL
To the editor: In a late communica
tion to a local periodical 1 was report
ed as having resigned from the super-
intendency of the Jacksonville schools, i
on account of poor health.
I happened to be away several days
attending to Important business mat-
was wholly a matter of secondary con
sideration. 1 had but recently come to
Jackson county, had made partial ar
rangements to engage in other pur
suits and was decidedly reluctant to
accept thn Jacksonville lusltion. I
entered into the engagement In abso
lutely good faith and honesty of pur
pose, to get a start in professional
work in this part of Oregon, where 1
have resolved to become permanently
established. 1 therefore take this oc
casion to indignantly resent the
cowardico and dishonesty of the ones
resjonsibto for further entangling the
situation in the Jacksonville schoolH.
It makes the complications incalcul
ably worse, and still more confused,
than at any previuus time since the
controversy over the superlntendeucy
began. It is all the more exasperating
ters at the state capital when this also by reason of the fact that the
pub-
astounding piece of news was
lished.
The communication just mentioned
is absolutely false and a lie. 1 have
not resigned, had at the time no notion
of resigning, nor any cause for resign
ing. Mv contract is still in force, and
iiiHi il9 miieli In foren ilk It ever was: i Just getting nicely started in their
and I, stand willing and disposed to j year's work when this latest and most
young people In tho Jacksonville
schools, us fine a class of boys and
girls us I ever met in my life under
any system, are having their most
vital und Bacred Interests fiendishly
jeopardized by this latest piece of tin
pardonable blunderatlon. They were
carry out the terms of the agreement
entered into originally.
The report Is no less a falsehood
and a lie, that I resigned on account,
of poor health. My health was never
better than at tho tlmo these lies were
first published.
There was no reason in fact, or in
law, why I should have resigned at the
tlmo these villainous reports were
published, nor at any other time since
the execution of my original contract
more than a month ago.
H has been my uniform practice and
disposition to stand by the terms of an
agreement when lawfully entered Into,
und to meet its obligations to the best
of my ability.
It Is provoking enough to an honest
mun to be wantonly lied about in triv
ial matters of no concern to the public;
hut when tho ontire community Is
maliciously and recklessly deceived In
so Important a transaction as the man
agement of a public school system,
.whoever is guilty of such vicious con
duct 1s deserving of the most severe
public condemnation.
1 cannot conceive of languago too
strong being used in expressing one's
disgust at such abominable folly.
In justification of my own conduct
in the premises permit mo to say that
1 never entered Into an agreement
with more sincerity of purpose than
when I signed tho contract with the
Jacksonville school board more tlnin a
month ngo, nnd after having been re
peatedly and urgently solicited to do
so. Fliinnci.il gain or'' remuneration
abominable and underhanded move
was made to lawlessly dispense with
my services.
Selfish consideration was the least
of my motives In this transaction. If
any valid or legitimate cause exists for
requiring or demanding my resigna
tion, there is a lawful way of going
about the mutter, and tho rocent law
lessness of the chalrman-protem and
his colleague In this monstrous iniqui
ty only complicates the situation.
Let public condemnation by every
honest ami respectable citizen of the
Jacksonville district bo visited upon
the person or persons responsible for
Iho publication nlsivo noted, and for
their luwless und scandalous means of
dispensing with my services, is about
tho only consolation I can offer in
their behalf.
I have been located in Oregon but a
short time. I brought with mo crcdon
Hals of long'und successful experience
as a professional man in other states;
and it Is very far from my intention
now to decline ono hair's breadth from
the standards of professional ethics
I have hitherto maintained.
Furthermore, I should lie untrue to
myself, and unjust ami discourteous to
those who have honored mo so gener
otiBly with their respect and confi
dence, us u business man, since locat
ing in this county, were I to hesitate
to express myself with emphasis on
this momentous projKisltinn.
Very respectfully,
HUN W. 1IOSMEII.

The Alumnl-Kigh School football
game which is scheduled for tomorrow
afternoon promises to be one of the
best Alumni-High School games ever
seen In Medford. The high school
team is In readiness for the contest
and has several veterans of former
years as well as other good men witli
less experience.
The prospects for an Alumni victory
aro brighter than they have ever been,
owing to the number of men from last
year's team who will participate, and
tae game promises to be a fairly even
und nn exceedingly interesting one.
The only fear of Alumni enthusiasts is
that a sufficient number of Alumni
players will not turn out. It is hoped
that there will be at least as many as
l.ave expressed their intention of play
ing. The high school line-up is as fol
lows: Hob Johnston, U.K.; Francis Pres

To Impurities in the
Pure, Rich, Red Blood Nourishes the Body and Fights Off
Disease.
Waste Products or Impurities Cause Many Forms 'of Rheumatism,
Skin Disorders and a Lowered Vitality.
How S. S. S. Clears the Blood of Waste Products.
Your system is continually taking
in nutrition and throwing off waste
products. This process goes on all
during life. But, sometimes the or
gans do not properly function and
these waste products, instead of pass
ing out through the pores of the skin,
through the kidneys and through the
alimentary canal, are nbsorbed in the
blood. Then the blood becomes pois
oned, and cannot properly nourish the
system. '
III health sets in. You may lose
your strength and vitality; or you
may have rheumatic pains in the mus
cles and joints; or yeu may be trou
bled with bad boils, .sores or some
other skin eruptions. 'All because of
the poisonous waste products in the
blood. Nature now needs help. She
has dona her best but is failing. A
blood purifier should be used at once
to assist nature to throw off these
waste products.
S. S. S., the standard blood puri
fier and system builder, is the idea1
remedy in these cases. The effect of
S. S. S. is to rid the system of the
poisons which are causing the trou
ble. For over 50 years, S. S. S. has
proven to bo of unusual merit.
