COMEDIAN WHO
THREE BOYS HURT
At the end of the fine concert Klven
under advrmc circumstances before
an audience of several thousand np
preeiative Med ford peojde in the city
park Kundny night, and just as the
hoy a were leaving the temporary
stand. in fact must of them had left
it, the platform which formed the
lower part of the stand collapsed and
three of the. smaller boys of the cho
rus were caught In the wreckage and
sustained bruises about the legs.
There was considerable excitement
Rt first, as it was thought the tads
had sustained broken limbs. 1Mb.
Porter and Holt, who were in the au
dience, nt once administered first aid
nnd pronounced the injuries were only
fprains and bruises. However, tho in
jured boys were walking around, but
lliuping, yesterday morning and de
parted with the chorus for Weed.
Harry Thornton, aged 9. of Portland
was the worst hurt of tho trio and he
' will not be able ' to wear a shoe for
several days, so bad Js his sprain.
At that, tho accident was fortunate,
In that it did not happen when all the
boys were seated on the stand, which
was flimsily constructed in circus seat
fashion at a- rather steep pitch, with
the top sent about 20 feet from the
ground. The concert was spoiled
somewhat through tho fears of Pro
fessor Whitney and 125 boys, ranging
in years from 5 to 20 years that the
uland would collapse.
In fact, when just before the con
cert the chorus had been sealed on
Ihe stand it began to move sideways
n little. Prof. Whitney at once ad
monished the youths to be calm and
move off the stand slowly and delibe
rately. . They obeyed, and the leader
then called for volunteers in the au
dience to brace the stand so as to
make it safe. This was done, con
siderably delaying . the concert.
When the chorus again cautiously
mounted the stand and had been seat
ed Mr. Whitney cautioned each of the
boys to keep his feet solid on the seat
in front of him, so in case the stand
did collapse their legs would not he
caught beneath the planks.
The chorus and leader were at a
disadvantage because of fear of the
safety of the structure, and the boys
remained seated all during the con
cert, sinking in a cramped position.
However, their concert was splendid,
nnd considering its worth under the
adverse circumstances one can imag
ine what it would have been had the
minds of the singers been more free
from worry and their lungs had had
more play.
; Finally Prof. Whitney announced
that ho would shorten the concert, as
ho was so worried because of his re
sponsibility for.' tho safety of the boys,
und therefore the next number would
bo tho last. This nutnbor, "Come
Where the Lilies Illoom," was one
uf tho best of tho concort, which was
composed mostly" of hymns and "re
ligious music. Tho usual program of
tho chorus is a varied one with a
ji umber of clever stunts.
The Whitney Boy's chorus 1b en
route on a concert tour through Cali
fornia, traveling in fivo biff motor
busses, ono private car and one motor
truck. During their stay In tho city
they wero entertained at private
homes.- The chorus nnd leader left
Monday morning at S o'clock for
Weed, the scene of their next con
cert. Tho majority of the boys are
from Portland, and a few of their
number are from Seattle.

Here's why CAMELS are
the quality cigarette
BECAUSE we put the utmost quality into this
one brand. Camels are as good as it's pos
sible for skill, money and lifelong knowledge of
fine tobaccos to make a cigarette.
Nothing is too good for Camels. And bear this
in mind! Everything is done to make Camels the
best cigarette it's possible to buy. Nothing is done
simply for show.
Take the Camel package for instance. It's the
most perfect packing science can devise to pro
tect cigarettes and keep them fresh. Heavy paper
secure foil wrapping revenue stamp to seal
the fold and make the package air-tight. But
there's nothing flashy about it. You'll find no
extra wrappers. No frills or furbelows.
Such things do not improve the smoke any more
than premiums or coupons. And remember you
must pay their extra cost or get lowered quality.
If you want the smoothest, mellowest, mildest
cigarette you can imagine and one entirely free
from cigaretty aftertaste,
It's Camels for you.
