Crater Lake lodge. Grieve's hotel
and Rogue Elk Resort were crowded
to capacity with guests Sunday and
Monday, and turned many away. At
the Grieve hotel the people were dou
bled up and every foot of sleeping
space In the hallways and other places
was filled, and then the dance hall
was filled with sleepers who lay down
on the bare floor, many without any
cover. At the Rogue Elk resort the
situation was siboul the same and it Is
said a crowd of people unable to ob
tain sleeping accomniodalions went
down on the bank. of the Roguo river,
made a huge bonfire and" lay down to
sleep as best they could in Its warmth.

action with the enemy on the Ourcq
river, France, July 30, 1918. it was
announced today at the war depart
ment. The citation says that Sergeant
O'Neill. In advance of an assaulting
line, attacking a detachment of about
25 of the enemy and though wounded
many times remained in command oi
his men. He finally was forced by
weakness and loss of blood to be evac
uated but he Insisted upon first being
take nto the battalion commander to
transmit valuable information relative
to enemy positions and the disposition
of the American forces.
