OFFIGUIL REPORT -MEDFORD
SCHOOL
FINANCES, 1921

Iriet Ni, 111 mi! iililo to siilmiit a re
port idiowinc; the district to ho in
sound financial condition. Whilo the
receipts from I lie- direct tax dill no!
quite equal the amount voted, other
receipts netted a greater revenue than
estimated.
Hpecial care was civen to the tahin';
and eheckiiiK up of the school census,
with the result as shown by the item
mauled "County School." Instruction
was furnished in our hiyh school to
many pupils from other school dls
trictB having no hili schools. This
revenuo is listed under "lli(,'h School.'.'
Under "Tuition" Is shown the revenue
received from Individuals attending
our schools from other districts which
by direct tax provided for Instruction
in their own schoo'.n. The state mid
federal government contributed to the
support or our aurietil'.ural department
under the .provision of the Smith
Hughes act. The students of the lumi
nal training department have paid foi
material used In their various projects
and the amount received is Known un
der the appropriate headiim.
It was necessary to borrow money
duriiu; the full term when tax returns--were
llaht. These loans have all been
repaid, liieludiuK the loans carried
over from the previous year. Repairs
') buildings and grounds will requirt
more money during the comhiK year,
as lire escapes must be provided for
two schools, worn out walks must hi
replaced and roofs recoated and paint
ed. Tim district has been payine, inter
nal on a bond debl of fuS.iuii). Dur
ini; (he fiscal year just closed this oh
I'lKation lias been reduced to $Hr,mn.
In order lo retire the remainder on
the bonds when due It will lie neces
sary to lay aside at least $10,1)00 each
year in a sinking fund. In order to do
this the inaintalnim; or a policy ol
strict economy will lie imperative.
The old hli;h school building is en
1 1 rely Inadetpialo for present needs.
It could lie used to advantage as a
Junior liiKh, thereby relieving the con
ifoslion in the Wnshiimton and Lin
coln schools. This adjustment will no!
bo possible of course until a new hi!;h
school hulldinK can he provided.
Tlio ball park has recently been
acquired by the district and a suitable
site for tlio new building is assured.
It is hoped that the public will suppon
Ibis .proKiani and that i'utitre school
boards will observe tlio strict economy
necessary for its success.
