to almost five points were made by
leading shares during today's brief
trading period in the stock market.
Oils, steels, equipments and shippings,
represented by Mexican Petroleum,
Houston Oil, Crucible and United
States Steel, Baldwin Locomotive and
United Fruit were tho outstanding
features. Tobaccos, sugars, leathers,
coppers and chemicals nlso made sub
stantial recoveries. Investment rails
nt gains of 1 to 3 ioiiits were led by
Reading and numerous junior trans
portations rose one to two points.
Gains were partly reduced by profit
taking in the final dealings. The clos
ing was strong. Sales approximated
