W. J. Corvln, formerly tho engi
neer on the P. & E. railroad came
out to fix up the pump lit the P. &
K. depot so as to fill the 60.000 gal
lon tank on that line. It had been
emptied last fall and left without any
water In It nnd the result was it
leaked considerable. He had quite n
time getting the pump to work, as
the gasket was badly worn and stand
ing all winter without being used it
took some time to get It started ns'! in.
Fred Pettlgrew. who owns a farm
out on the new Crater Lake highway,
was here for dinner Saturday. He
seems to think that the now highway
will be the proper thing for him, as
it is so arranged that it will give him
an outlet not only to Eagle Point,
but to Butte Falls as well. It. A.
Petty was also a business caller Sat
urday. He says that this rain that
we had last Saturday night will be
worth thousnnds of dollars to our
valley. In talking with him, tho sub
ject of wild oats nnd bay came up,
nnd he said that he had left about
fifty arres of ground to cut wild
oat hay. but the broncho grass took
It. so be plowed it up. nnd thus killed
off n terrible nuisance, but hns his
ground ready to sow this fall to
wheat. Speaking of the broncho grass
it Is getting such a hold on the land
done to check il, ami y.-l rid of il, it

Henry Trusty of Ealk Creek spent
Saturday night at the Sunnyside and
was also here again Monday. Mr.
Armstrong and son, who bought the
Charley Newstrom place lu the Lake
creek country were here for dinner
Monday and so was George West and
wife of Medford. They were on their
way to the Brownsboro cemetery to
decorate bis brother's grave. George
Is In the forest service and said that
Monday was tlie first memorial day
that he has been situated so that lie
could observe the day. for eight years.
Mrs. Albert Clements of Prospect
called a few moments Monday.
Mrs. J. C. Murray and Mrs. Charles
Delhi and children, of Medford, were
also visiting our town.
Pete Hells nnd wife nnd her sister.
Mrs. Chris Bergsuinu, were also here
Monday evening. They bad been to
Medford and were on their way home.
Horace Oeppert of Unite Falls
spent Monday night at Hie Sunnyside.
Charley Humphrey of Derby was
in town Monday. He was bringing
out a truck load of wood and taking
back a load of household goods be
longing to Thopias Cool; and bis
mother.
