will be more than ordinarily observed.
Schools are out, while the banks, post
office, and business houses In general
will be closed m u Sunday basis. The
American Legion takes the Initiative,
very appropriately. In arrangements
for the observance, and In the words
of Its preliminary announcement, "Joy
ides and fishing trips are all called
off in view of the Memorial event.
Kverybody is expected to attend the
ceremonies of the day with the old uiid
young soldiers, the Relief Corps, Span
ish vets, and Daughters of the Amer
ican Revolution. The Hoy Scouts will
be very much In evidence as a special
escort for the veterans, the Relief
Corps, and American Legion Auxil
iary. The charter of tbo Women's
Auxiliary of the American Legion has
been received, and the organization Is
being perfected, eligibility for affilia
tion depending upou near relationship
either to present members of the le
gion or to service men who paid the
supreme sacrifice. The memorial
monument is already in place, its loca
tion being In Ashland cemetery, where
it will be unveiled next Monday with
appropriate ceremonies. The Memor
ial Day exeroises will be held at the
armory, with Col. John L. May ns
speaker at the event. Incident to the
observance both at the armory and
Ashland cemetery, a parly will bo de
tailed to decorate the burial plots in

teries. Decoration day, famllinrly so

Over 1000 wounded men returned
