Oregon that the employment situation
in the city of Portland U very grave
and to urge those out of the cily not
to come to Portland in the hoi of gel
ling employment. There are approx
imately i'uu" ex-service men not em
ployed at the present time in the city
of Portland, two-thirds of them not be
ing Portland men, arid the legion em
ployment bureau reports from 5 to 10
register each day for employment and
their waiting list Is well over 5UU.
State headquarters has asked the co
operation of all the posts to obtain
employment for many of these men
out of the city and endeavor to clear
up the serious situation that has
arisen.

Dell Hart of Kerby Is one of the
Josephine county visitors in the city.
There will be no special road bond
ing measure at the election to be held
June 7 in Josephine county. The bond
ing bill, to have been placed on the
ballot by the petition route, received
the necessary number of signers but,
owing to the fact that many of those
who favored the measure hud failed to
register, their names were scratched
and the potitiou did not cany the nec
essary percentage of registered voteds
to be placed upon the ballot. . The pro
posed measure would have lionded the
county for (350,000 to be used in co
oKtration with the state 50-50 plan.

chants were at . the U. S. fisheries' on
Rogue river Sunday working on their
camp grounds which- Is. on part of tho
station laud. They nearly completed
the fence around the camp and tt Is
understood that two or three cabins
will be started, right away,.
Miss Eula Houston and Fred Mid-
dlebuslicr were married Friday even
ing, May 13at the home. of- Rev. J. E.
McDonald who performed the cere
mony. The wedding was a complete
surprise to everyone. Although the
couple were at a picnic which Mrs.
Mlddlebusher gave to the school chil
dren no one knew they were married.
It began raining here Sunday even
ing and has been raining ever since.
Monday it hailed quite hard several
times, being hard on cabbage and to
mato plants.
Will McDonald is painting the
Rogue Elk hotel and making various

a different looking place of the hotel
