Thursday night brought out auother

Hulglit-Lewrs tabernacle itieetlngs. Tho
Woodmen lof the World attended the
service iu body. Mrs. Lewis sang a
special solo iu keeping with the uub-
jeet of Hie sermou. Ono of the great '
messages of Uie meetings was given
last evening on "The .Man of Ualllee."!
This ln'essage has beeu delivered by',
Dr. llulgln ft number ot times on the
cbautauiiua platform, and was highly
appreciated by all who were present.
The clear, logical presentation of the!
place of Christ In history was Bet forth!
in. a most convincing way, and could'
not fall to have Us effect on tho mind
of tho most skeptical person. I
Sunday afternoon the subject dis
cussed will be "The Lean Cow," which
should bo heard by everybody, and in
the evening Ur. Bulgin will discuss the
question as to whether the llibln
trachi's the doctrine of a hell, and If
so how can a Uud of lore send any
person to hell. Sunday promises to
be another big day.
' Dr. Bulgin tonight speaks on Chris
tian Science. The subject will be
treated, as has every other theme dis
cussed;, from a purely biblical point of
view. ' Us Christian Science Biblical,

sire to hear this subject from the view
point of the bible are urged to be iu
their seats early. The personal work
ers will again meet at 7 p. m. tonight
at the M. E. church. South. The Sun

1'etillons culling upon the county
authorities lo place a measure for a
oue mill tax for fair buildings before
the voters at a special electiou, are
being circulated In the county.
The Farm Bureau county fair com
mittee requested the Med ford chamber
of commerce to have these .yetitlons
circulated In the city of Medford.
which rosixmsibillty was accepted.
The names of approximately 2000
voters Is necessary on tho petitions in
order to get It on the ballot. The luw
under which counties may tax them
selves for the construction of fnlr
buildings states that the measure con
taining such a levy must be voted
upon at a special election, together
with other provisions which would not
permit voting upon this question at
tho election on June 7th.
The county fair committer of the
Farm bureau, ill order to save the
county the expense of the special elec
tion contemplate asking all of the
judges and clerks of election to offer
Ihelr services without pay. They be
lieve the construction of proper fair
facilities is of such importance to the
county and farmers" in particular that
ever)- citizen having anything to do
with the county fair should volunteer
his or her services the same as tho
members of the Farm Bureau and the
Fair asaoclation are now doing.
Those having petitions for circula
tion in Medford are Fred Mcars, W. II.
Gore, John Goodrich, Fort Hubbard,
J. II. Carkln, E. C. Gaddis, S. 1. Brown,
J. W. Wakefield-, G. V. Nellson, J. V.
Dressier, S. Sumpter Smith, W. A.
j Gates, Karl Short, Bert M. Sullivan, J.
D. Boll, S. T. Richardson and Jerry
Jerome.
The petition may be signed nt the
headquarters of the Medford Chamber
of Commerce.
YOU don't have to use as
much of Calumet as you
do of most other Baking Powders.
Because it has more than the or
dinary leavening strength. You
save about half on its use.
You don't have to pay a big
price for Calumet. It's sold at a mod
erate price. It always has been.
And that represents another saving.
You don't have to feel uncer
tain as to results. Bakings never fail
because Calumet never falls below
the proven standard of 'Best by Test"
ASHLAND, May 13. Five thousand
dollars is the estimate for the local
chamber of commerce budget for 1921,
and in line with this. quota nearly a
score of members of the organization
have already been appointed to can
vass business firms and Individuals In
order to raise this fixed amount. The
15000 Ik placed as a minimum of what
should be raised for this specific fund.
As an indication of the spirit which Is
prompting the prosecution ot this fi
nancial campaign, J. W. McCoy, cash
ier of the First National bank, pledged
tne chamber of commerce that the
three banks of Ashland would sub
scribe an additional ten per cent of
the amount raised for the budget. A
tentative allotment of this budget, as
planned, appropriates $1500 for a
Fourth of July celebration, $1000 for
the summer school, and $1200 for a
tent city on the Chautauqua grounds,
In the way of major expenditures, the
balance of $1300. to be reserved for
minor purposes contingent upon emer
gent demands. No salaries or office
expenses are to be drawn from tills
$5000 budget. A chief feature enter
ing Into the Fourth1 of July celebration
will he signalizing completion of the
mountain unit Qf thn PacirUnHjgliwfly

is concerned. This promises to be a

county, .Oregon, and 'Siskiyou county.
California, will join In a mutual jollifi
cation over the completion of the "con
necting link" In the improved highway
aud Inasmuch as Ashland Is to cele
brat the Fourth anyway, the dual
observance will be lined up here. The
highway project Is to be completed by
July 1, allowing a few days in the
meantime to perfect details of the
joint celebration, a few certain for
malities to take place on the actual
state boundary limitations in a per
functory way.
Of course it Is taken for granted
that those who Bubscrihed towards
the chamber of commerce budget last
year will duplicate their donations
this season also, ai-tha same time In
fluenclng newcomers to fall Into line
also. The soliciting committee is
headed by L. F. Ferguson, others of
the personnel being H. H. Elhart,,A. C.
Biiggs, W.'H. MoNair, T. H. Simpson,
V. O. N. Smith,. C. H. Pierce. Fred

This comiplttoe .(began early In the
week at canvassing on the $5000 bud
get basis. ..
The amount of the special budget
raised last year was $4200, of which
principal $1555 remained unexpended
on or about May 1 of the present year.
As we understand It, the budget fund
is raised independently of receipts in
cident to membership dues, the mem
bership of the chamber of commerce
at present being 375, tne members pay
Ing one dollar per month each.
