Much to the relief of everyone the
light to heavy frost predicted for thlH
morning did not materialize, and it
was known before midnight that it
would not. The lowest temperature of
the morning was 38. The escape from
the colder predicted weather was due
lo local low pressure and a cloudy con.
tlltlon which remained all night. At
7 p. ni. Frost Expert Young and Conn
ty Agent Cate informed the orchar
dints that conditions at that hour Indl
cated a possible temperature of 31 be
fore morning, but at 11 p. in. they
pave out word to the orchard men to
go to bed and have a good sleep, as all
danger of a frost was past.

Of Interest to all mining men of
southern Oregon is the following item
In the Grants Pass Courier: "The Bos
well Mining company is now installing
its cyanide plant on the property at
Sucker creek, and will soon have It in
operation. The mill at the Boswell
Is turning out an average of $1000 In
bullion every day, working on only the
high grade, while the tailings and low
er grade ores will be treated with the
cyanide process. The mine Is showing
up even better than the most optimis
tic had hoped, the ore body having
been traced for considerable distance,
and continuing almost fabulously rich.
The vein is no doubt the lode from
which has come many of (he millions
yielded by the Illinois valley placer
mines, and It is bringing to this coun
try the attention of mining men from
all the west."

of Waldo, Or., knows his hospitality.
A few years ago ho was Invaded by a
group of army officers and a civilian
and he undertook to extend tho cus
tomary courtesies. Mr. Easterlcy no
ticed that every officer would snaiiplly
salute the civilian nnd nddrcss him as
Mr. Secretary." Tho host supposed
that the civilian was a Y. M. c. A.
socretary until he watched for n while,
and as he couldn't solve the mystery
of tho distinguished visitor, he finally
blurted out. Why do all these offlcors
saluto yon and say "Mr. Socretary?"
"My namo Is Houston." was the reply.
but the name carried no meaning to
ir. Eusterley. "Well," Insislod the
host, "whoso secretary are you?" "Un-
fortunately,", explained the civilian,
with a grin, "1 h in at present secretary
of agriculture." Mr. Ksterley has been
visiting at the Hotel Portland."

HOW TO USE
YOUR DENTIST
There would be little dread of the
dental chiiir if patients would make
regular visits and have their teeth
examined at least twice a year. If
this plan Is followed, the cavities will
be small and can he filled with a
minimum of pain.
Tartar deposits should also be
carefully removed and the teeth
thoroughly cleaned at the same time.
If this plan were adopted by every
one a great many of the ills, which
are the result of tooth neglect, would
bo overcome.
