Monday night. Mr. l)avnport made
an exhibit of .Medford coal, from the
Hosseau coal mine at tha congress
Much interest was manifested by min
ing and business men. The coal tested
1300 H. T. IT. S. or heat units, which
is high. The Southern Pacific railroad
granted commodity freight rates
which enabled the Hosseau Coal Co.
to close a contract for several ears of
coal to be shipped to Tillamook,
Freight rates are being adjusted to
Rosoburg and Intermediate points
which will enable people in these
towns to use Medfurd coal as well as
several contractors paving the Pacific
Highway. Heretofore Medford coal
was delivered at Grants Pass by truck
These lower freight rates will mater
tally reduce the cost of coal to the
consumers at Grants Pass and other
nearby towns.

no longer necesfiary.

"Black Beauty" Pleases at Page
All lovers of Anna Scwell's "Hlack
Beauty," all lovers of horses and all
those who like fine acting and a beau
tiful picture, will go to see this motion
picture production of the famous book
at the Page theatre this week.
As we love horses and especially ad
mire Jean Paige and James Morrison
and the others whose acting makes
the picture such a treat, it is difficult
to maintain the equanimity which Is
supposed to pervade a review. We
confess frankly that we are not com
petent to Judge "Illark Beauty" I
partially as the horses and Jean Paige
carried us off our feet. In extenuation
we might say that a very large theater
of very critical people likewise broke
loose iind niilntideij.
ROME The United States has
asked the Italian government to lend
to America tli services of an engi
neer skilled in the construction of
semi-rigid dirigible airships and sev
eral other men to aid in the building
in the I'nited States of craft like the
Iloma. the big dirigible purchased
from Italy. Tho Italian government
has granted tho request and tho Ital
ian engineer, t'elestine L'suvlll, de

American craft.
It is understood that the Americans
have intimated that thoy would be
glad to have tho services of Klgnor
Nobill, the builder of the Iloma and
also her Italian crew to aid In air
ship building. It is stated that the
American airships of the same kind
as the Iloma are to be five meters
shorter than the Italian vessel bought
by America, so that they can be shel
tered in the American hangors.
Slgnor Usuellt is planning linger
dirigibles for Italy. "1 Intend to start
immediately the construction of
another dirigible measuring 40,000
cubic meters, tho Inrgest Unit ran
enter the present Italian hangars."
he said. "This new ship will replace
the Itunin, but will be able to fly
without alighting almost twice as
long.
"My next great construction will lie
a super-giant, semi-rigid dirigible for
the construction of which I musK
await the arrival from Germany or
three colossal hnngiua assigned to
Italy. 1 shall then build nil airship
220 meters In length. 84 111 height and
