At last Medford is to bave a city
auto camp grounds with nice sur
roundings and comforts, which will
prove inviting for tourists for the com
ing season, and next year will un
doubtedly have new and commodious
city auto camp grounds. This was de
cided at this week's meeting of the
city council.
The matter was brought to a head
by the determined attitude shown by
Mayor Gates, who stated that some
thing must be done at once to get
ready as quick as possible to welcome
the hosts of auto tourists that will
pass through and stop in tho city this
summer and fall. The councilmen had
been unable to agree on the question
of purchasing new auto camp grounds,
which Bubjcct has been under conuld
oration for a year past.

the lease of the present grounds for
this year, and Mayor Gates and City
superintendent Chas. Davis were autb
orlzed to go ahead, have the present
grounds cleaned up, graded and im
proved at wuntever expense was Justi
fled In their judgment.
Iiiib work will begin within a day or
two, when carpenters will commence
tho erection of a pergola 100 feet long,
12 feet high and with bungalow roof,
and lattice work, to serve as a shelter,
recroatlon and dining room quarters
Quick growing 30-day vines will be
planted ut once to cover this pergola
Electric lights will be installed
throughout the grounds, and n row of
small furnaces to furnish warmth,
nights and mornings will be built, as
will a septic tank and lavatories,
Painted garbage and refuse cans will
be scattered throughout the grounds,

Retreat" in honor of Councilman
Keene ns is contemplated, theso cans
will bo artistically hand painted.

Anglers art warned by the state
game commission that those caught
fishing for trout under 10 Inches in
mountain streams before the season
ooena on April 15 will meet with dis
aster. Numbers of people Were appre
hended Sunday and pleaded Ignorance
of the law, declaring they were under
the impression that the opening of the
season this year was the same as last.
Trout over 10 inches may be taken by
fishermen the year around from
streams affected by tidewater, but no
fish at all may be taken from moun
tain streams prior to the oiening of
the season. Trout under six inches
are not to be taken at any time.

man Adams last night for being drunk

was the third in succession for a
white frost to fall in the Rogue River
valley, Just at the timo to catch the
fruit trees In full bloom. While it is
too curly to ascertain the exact
amount of damage done to the fruit,
fears are entertained in many sections
that the fruit In the valley, especially
the early peaches and cherries, are se
verely hurt, If not entirely so. In some
parts of 'tho valley, It is stated, the
frost will not entirely kill the fruit, as
tho blossoms have been so thick on the
trees that they form a protection to
one another, thus saving several out '
