Last evening Company D, National
Cuards of Medford, after a short, drill
spent the remainder of the evening In
game!) and sports. This was planned
as the first demonstration, and in a
small way, for new members who have
joined the company In the past few
weeks and a celebration on behalf of
the company over the armory victory.
It is now being planned for a public
banquet or meeting of some such na
ture for the near future when all the
people will have air opportunity to bo
present and hear something on the
plans und arrangements for the new
armory for this city. This new build
ing is one most seriously needed by
the military company, the local organ
ization American Legion post and
other organizations that nan be accom
modated, as well, and the building will
be ono of the most convenient and well
equipped buildings that can be found
on the Pacific coast and one well
adapted to public use.
Among the features of the sports
lust evening was the murktimanshlp
contest on the Indoor range open to all
tho enlisted men of the local company.
Many entered the contest which lasted
until about ten o'clock. The Bhootlng
was done with the army 21 caliber
liNea and was conducted tinkler strict
army regulations, under the supervis
ion of Second Lieutenant Vein H.
Marshall, and the prize given by the
officers of the local company, which
was a flue sterling silver pencil, was
won by Corporal Vern H. Pendleton, of
Central Point, who made the highest
score, being 93 out of possible 100. The
next highest score was made by Pvt.
(luy Tex, postmaster at Central Point,
whose score was 87.
Several bowling games were also play
ed during the evening, and tho com
pany cooks, Pvt. Geo. Iverson and Pvt.
Geo. Reynolds, under supervision of
mess Sergeant Oscar Lewis, served a

In the past a general impression
has prevailed that the county fair
was a Medford proposition. This Im
pression was gained because of the
unwillingness of tho farmers :f the

nanclal responsibility and conduct the
fair.
From the responses received from
the recently elected directors, it is
evident that the fair will bo strictly
a county proposition and be truly rep
resentative of tho county as a wholo,
which is as It should be.

enterprise in which ho nearly loses his
life. Later she deserts him, and It ls
only the courage of Martin that brings
happiness for his son out of the mess.

yesterday to the Pago theatre for a
four days' run, George Medford has
produced the finest photoplay of his
career. The veteran producer of
"Bverywoman," "The Sea Wolf," and
"The Round Up" has fairly outdone
himself In this deeply appealing screen
version of Sir Gilbert Parker's novel
of the Canadian northwest, "The
Translation of a Savage."
